Time for a new battery???
 

I have a 2004 H2 w/ 27,000 miles. That makes my battery almost 5 years old. So my question is while I have no indication of any problems now, is it smarter to replace it now while I can do it in my garage vs. finding it dead while I am sitting in the middle of the desert. I hate to toss a perfectly good battery away. Any suggestions??

If you want to be safe, then yes 5 years you got your moneys worth out of it. On the other hand it could last 8 years who knows. Safe or Sorry??? If I were goning to the desert I have a nice fresh yellow top. :D :D :D

I agree....you got way more use out of the battery than expected. could last another couple of years or could die tomorrow. The cost of a battery is cheaper than the cost of a tow...

A new battery after 5-years is a pretty good investment.

I'd rather replace in in my driveway on my terms than be stranded in the boonies.

Go for an Optima.

There is no optima that will fit and give you the 880 cca the H2 requires,the group 79 is the proper battery for your H2. an optima side post will fit ,but will not have 880 cca . it will work just fine but is not the correct aplication . you got lucky for the first battery to last more than 4 years.;)

I looked at the Optima's today and they tell me the red top will fit but you suggest the yellow top. As mentioned, the CCA's seem to be light on these batteries and only have a one year warranty. I wonder if they are big enough.

i agree that you need to replace your battery, but you can save the old one for a future emergency use, wouldn't take it in on the $10 core. I would replace with a oem battery if the other lasted 5 years. Optima is a very good brand, but do you need it? I would replace with an oem and hope to get another 5 years.

Cheaper to keep A set of booster cables on board. A dead battery will not kill your truck unless you shut it down. Usually Someone will be around to boost ya and off to the parts store ya go. Keep A 8mm wrench, 13mm socket, 4" extension and 3/8" drive ratchet and you have all the tools once you get to the parts store. I had A customer ask me to change his battery out at 6 yrs and he didn't want the old one, it lasted another 4 in my jeep. On the other hand I have seen them fail after less than A year.

And it still has NO side post conectors. if you want to modify your cables than it may work if the posts on top clear your hood . or just slide in a good 7 year group 79 and call it a day.
