H3 Tires
Well hello to everyone. I have been reading the site for several days now and i have found some great information. I was shocked today when I actually got talked out of buying a set of Good Year MT's. I was looking to get 33"ers. I was in a Good Year tire store and this know it all sales men told me that my H3 was no H1 or H2. That the suspension of this truck was not designed to take that size tire. Hummer had done a ton of research and the stock tire was the right size for the truck. the brakes would not be able to handle the bigger tires. What the F**K. He pretty much dissed the H3's. I bet he has never even rode in one. I know i am not crazy. i have seen other H3's with 35's. Oh yeah I have leveled the truck with the torsion bars...
What should i be looking at as far as tires? |

Re: H3 Tires
The Adventure package H3 comes with 285/75R16 which is considered a 33" tire -- on the base stock wheel.

Re: H3 Tires
that guys a dumb a$$ ya exactly just be like i know thats why i dont want 38"s, and ask him if hes ever rode in one or been offroading in one. And what sources he got all his info from. Put him back in his cacoon!!! And i dont know if they work on comission or what, but i sure know i wouldnt buy my tires from him. You dont really need the level for the 33", the level does good if you want 35's.

Re: H3 Tires
exactly where is this goodyear store ?

Re: H3 Tires
there are many posts here on tire sizes and brands
do a forum thread search for that many of the serious off roading guys use toyo 35" mt's and seem like they are happy with them i cant wait until my stock desert dueler 33"s wear out, but with 20,000 miles so far and very little sign of wear, it hard to justify tossing a perfectly good set of tires! good luck |
Re: H3 Tires
I suspect he didn't have 33" in stock and was trying to sell you the 31" he had on the floor.

Re: H3 Tires
give me your stock 32's
|
Re: H3 Tires
I recently bought the 285/75/16 and i like them. BUT.... I would like a set of 35'5. Even if i have em just to throw on when i wheel. What upgrades do i have to make to the H3 to accomodate the 35?
|
Re: H3 Tires
okay i dont have 35's but from what ive heard you either need a lift or to level out your rig

Re: H3 Tires
Do you need to reprogram the vehicle computer when going to the 285 tire? I switched from stock to the 285/75/16 back in May with no problems. About a month ago the SERV TMP light came on. The dealer is telling me it is because of the larger tire and needing to reprogram the computer to recognize them, at $180. Ok, but why has it taken almost six months for it to be an issue? They said the bands in the tire are fine, it's the new tire size causing the service message.

You can reprogram the PCM for the difference in tire size, so that the speedo and odometer are correct. But tire size shouldn't affect the TPM system. As for reprogramming it, the steps are in the owners manual. You can do it yourself, FOR FREE! If that doesn't work, there may be a fault in the system (ie. bad sensor) and that should be fixed under warranty. |
Re: H3 Tires
what i want to know is when you move u how do you re-adjust the speed gauge so it shows the actual speed my friend just moved up from 32" to 33" on his rig and it shows 78 when hes going 75 etc.... so anyone know how you re adjust this? and does the transmission need to be re adjusted as well?

I think it is the other way around; with larger tires speedometer will show less then the actual speed you may want check one of many calculators, here for instance: http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/infoTireMath.dos as Sewie said above, to adjust the speedometer, transmission shifting points etc you have to reprogram PCM. When I went from 32 to 33 I didn't adjust anything and all is OK. One of the reasons why I didn't step up to 35's was that I didn't want to bother with PCM adjustments which may have been needed after 32-35 step; the 32-33 seems marginal |
Re: H3 Tires
whoops missed that post ya im sorry i did mean it the other way around. Can you adjust something like that yourself or do you need to bring it in to someplace to get that done?
