Need opions
What do you perfer tire mounted outside of hummer on back or tire mounted inside?
|
Re: Need opions
Well the tire mounted both places is ugly, and not functional, nothing but taking up space. But I think its the lesser of two evils on the outside, because interior space is more important, for gear, or more importantly seats if your putting seats back there.
Man it would be great if you could mount the tire under the car yet not lose ground clearance, find a place to tuck it up under there in an unused space, yet sadly this aint gonna happen. Personally I'm taking my spare tire off the back soon and just storing it at home. 90% of my driving is local and if the tire had a problem I'd be local or I could put the tire carrier on if I took a road trip. Also not to mention I have aftermarket rims and tires and the stock rim and tire on the back doesnt exactly match. Taking it off will save a bit of gas and not look stupid. The only reason I see leaving it on besides that once in a blue moon time you might get a flat (the stock tires from experience are damn durable and had not very many problems on many limos that run many miles always on OEM tires) is if somebody were to rear end you it would be one more thing for the rear tire to go into their teeth :) |
Re: Need opions
I like them outside (with a cover though), the protection that they would provide in a rear end collision is more than without them. Inside you have to deal with the tire smell thing.

Re: Need opions
I have an external spare carrier but I think the H2 looks really clean without it. I have a locking drawer in my cargo area, so an internal carrier (which I had and removed) is no longer an option. Many people mount theirs on their (often Gobi) roof rack, either with or without the Gobi tire carrier. For me, this is not an option as I would not fit into any of the garages which I frequent (including my own). Unlike some, I wouldn't run without a spare. I have had flats both on and off road and for myself, the potential problems are not worth it. Ultimately, the only opinion of consequence is your own.

Re: Need opions
Id just call AAA and let them handle it, and run without it.

Re: Need opions
Outside with a nice painted cover looks good, truck does look clean without it but with a nice cover outside its a toss up.

Re: Need opions
Inside : loss of space ! stupid !
Rear : ugly (in my opinion) Roof : GREAT ! ![]() |
Re: Need opions
Hated it on the outside at first, but learned to live with it!
It's not really that bad, and I would hate to think it would do to someone's car in a rear end accident! |
Re: Need opions
I put mine on top because I don't like it inside or hanging on the back. I know if I leave it home, I'll need it. Roadside assistance won't cover a call if your spare isn't with you, so I just leave it one top. I've only needed it once after I picked up a drill bit with the right rear tire one time.
I don't go into parking garages or anything like that, so I don't have to worry about clearance. |
Re: Need opions
I love mine on back, but eithout a cover. I think an uncovered spare on the back makes the vehicle look like a serious off-road vehicle
(even more so on the roof, but I can't get any taller and still park inside, and a spare on top has to drop your highway MPGs--almost like putting a small sail on top of your vehicle). If you want an urban-looking machine, inside or no spare would be best. |

Re: Need opions
For functionallity the swing-a-way rear is best IMO. Its a bitch to get a 90lb tire off the roof and the flat one on there again if you are out on a trail, or anywhere for that matter.

Re: Need opions
I have mine inside, hope that I never have to use it as it would be a bitch to get out. Also the factory jack is crap, hope I never have to use that either.

What in the wild wild World of Sports were you doing in MOAB without a Spare? To be honest I would never try to plug a sidewall with any Tire repair kit be it special lube or rubber cement. A sidewall hole brings da AAA |
