Clinometers
Well, I was looking through some of the older posts on the clinometers that folks have decided to use.
I opted for the Reiker Instrument Co. Clinometer, that has a glass tube filled with a dampening fluid, and a metal ball. They were made for the marine industry and are very duable, yet precise for measuring. Here is the link... http://www.riekerinc.com/M-Inclinometer/2055e.htm I realized that the any place other than a manufactured trail is not going to have any info on the slope of the terrain you will be driving on. I ordered two, so one can be used for breakover angle, and one for approach & departure slope. I will need to play around with mounting ideas, but I am usually pretty good at coming up with solutions. |
Re: Clinometers
I got mine at West Marine for about $14.
Lev-O-Guage Clinometer The one's for marine use seem to be fairly durable. |
Re: Clinometers
Having it in the truck won't help you measure the breakover angle or departure angle.
A Lev-o-Guage or similar will meaure the angle your truck is on though and help confirm the pucker factor. The sidehill angle usually feels worse than it is. Safety on a side hill is also effected by soft ground condition tire pressure and weight on the roof etc. |

KenP, Love the Avatar, and the Profile Pic!
Desert Dan, I figured it wouldn't be a very good indicator for the Approach, but I do agree, and was really talking about being on the grade, seeing what the degree of slope is. Now just finding a good mounting position and bracket that doesn't ruin my truck? |
Re: Clinometers
I'm just giving you a hard time:)
I have one in my Jeep above windshied for side hils but it is easier to mount since there are flat surfaces and metal. I had one one the door fro upand down angles. When it's really bad on a side hill I usually forget to look at them anyway. RV stores often have them for leveling purpose. |

FourFourTwo
What brand clinometer is yours? Good install job and location |
Re: Clinometers
I got it on ebay same as one below.
I cut off the mounting bracket and mounted with 3m outdoor double tape(thin gray kind)I wired it to the light wire on the dash knobs. Its a little off when the mirror is in driving position but can be fine tuned to 0 by adjusting the mirror when offroading. http://cgi.ebay.com/Inclinometer-Land-Meter-Jeep-CJ-CJ5-CJ7-5-7-YJ-TJ_W0QQitemZ330185975232QQihZ014QQcategoryZ67882QQ ssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem |
