My Wipers Suck
Last night we had our 2nd snow storm up here in Maine. I did not get a chance to go out during the first storm but certainly had to spend some time out in it last night.
First things first....driving in the snow, this thing is awesome!!!! Very stable and handles very well. Visibility....TOTALLY SUCKS!!! Hummer did an absolutely piss poor job in placing the defroster vents. On the Drivers side, ice builds up towards the middle of the windshield (no vent there) and interfere's with the wiper blade. On the passenger side, the same thing happens towards the bottom of the blade. What a freakin mess...I had to stop every 10 - 15 miles or so to clear the ice. I'm gonna try to make some deflectors to redirect the air.....anyone else have this problem |

"First things first....driving in the snow, this thing is awesome!!!! " You should change the title of this thread to include wipers or defrost sux. I have the same problem. My thoughts are this is due to the fact that the window is basically vertical. Unlike on a normal vehicle where the slant of the windshield allows the snow to slide up over the roof the Hummer windshield catches the snow and then it just slides down onto the blades. The defrost works fine. You would need a flame thrower to do better. Just the way it is. Maybe living where you live a HotShot would be in order. http://www.hotshotdirectllc.com/product.shtml |
Re: My Hummer SUX in the snow
I titled the thread as such to get people's attention.:)
I'll look into the HotShot, that might be my answer. The defrost works fine, very HOT, I just think that it's not directed in the proper spot. |

Re: My Wipers Suck
While the power of the vents is fine the angle of the winshield itself does not allow the hot air to blow on it well. I've heard of some issues with the hot shots as well. I carry a can of de-icer in the winter. Just pull over every 40 minutes and spray some on and you'll be fine. :notallthere:

Bosch Wipers
I know there are a couple of different threads on this but I figured I'd add this here...
I've done snow plowing on the side for the past 22 years now, and have always changed out the wipers for the winter ones (even though those sometimes tend to get moisture in them and still freeze up). For the H2 I went and bought the Bosch Icon's. They had them listed in the store as 417A for the drivers side and 417B for the passenger side. I put them on in the parking lot, tried them out as it was lightly raining. The drivers side was fine, cleared it great. The passengers side left the entire center section with water on the windshield, similar to what happens when the stock ones freeze up and don't clear. I tried playing with it for a moment to see if for some reason the simple install was off or something (not that I think you could install a wiper blade wrong) and it didn't make any difference. Took them back off, put the factory one's back on and they were fine. Asked the auto parts store manager if they were the correct part numbers (417A .vs 417B) and he said 'yes'. Just returned them at that point. I did notice that Trico has a similar design as well and was wondering if those would be any different or better/worse. In short, did they give me miss-information with the 417A for drivers side and 417B for passengers side? What were the part numbers for those that are having good luck with these. Thanks! |
Re: My Wipers Suck
I got those on my 05 and there was only one part number for both blades 417a I think. They work great for me in the snow.

Re: My Wipers Suck
Mine work great! And yes, per their (Bosch's) application guide, I put 417A on both D & P sides.

Re: My Wipers Suck
Winter blades and blast the DEF. Open the window if it gets too hot. Works perfectly for me.
