painted center caps

Anybody painted (black) their center caps? How did you do it?

Did you ave remove the excisting color/paint or can you get durable matte black on top of the original (non chrome)?

I used 220 grit to prep and then used Duplicolor wheel paint (rattle can stuff). 4 months later & lots of off road still looking good...

What is that 220 grit? like very fine sandpaper?

How many times did you paint them? Did you use Dupli Color matte black?

Thanks!

Yes 220 is a fine texture paper. Just scuff them until they are no longer shiney. Two coats of the Duplicolor, I used flat black but they turned out a bit glossy.

I waited two days before going off road, but I suspect I could have gone out just 24 hrs after application without a problem.

Good luck.:)
