SERV 4WD
Wondering if anyone has had this problem, didn't find much results in searching for this thread. Here's the situation. We just got 12inches of snow with drifts of 3-4 feet. Had to switch to 4lo last night to get to my house and now it won't switch out of 4lo. Message on DIC says SERV 4wd. If I shut the vehicle off and turn back on, put in neutral and push 4hi it tries to switch back but can't. When you put it back into gear the message comes on again and if you go back to neutral it won't even try to disengage when pushing 4hi. Would a build up of snow and ice in the wheels and underneath create this problem? Dealership said no. Any ideas? Oh yeah, just had the differential fluid changed at the dealership 3 weeks ago trying to avoid having these sorts of problems. Is it possible they did something wrong? This is the first time I've used 4lo since then.

Re: SERV 4WD
try backing up a few feet in a straight line and the try to shift out of low.
Sometimes tourque can build up and cause some binding in the t-case I wish the H3 had a manual t-case shift lever rather than a button |
Re: SERV 4WD
Tried backing up and that didn't work, it looks as if the 4lo button is stuck in.

That is most likely the problem, but you could also have a bad actuator. OR You can also pull the center console and check the back of the switches to make sure they have not come loose. The dealer will probably change out the switch panel, mine has been done twice. |
Re: SERV 4WD
Run up and down through the shift buttons two or three times while stopped and in neutral. I have had the "service 4wd" message several times and our peers here suggested the method which works.

Re: SERV 4WD
have determined it is probably the button. I'll find out tomorrow for sure when it gets to the dealer. Thanks for all the tips.
