New here.... buying advice for 03 H2
Looking at an 03 H2 for 27,750.00. 34k miles, luxury package.
Is there anything I should be looking for, or expecting while looking at 03's? The price seems extremely good for the condition it is in. For me, as long as it tows, I'm happy. It has no roof rack, which doesn't bother me. What do you hummer vets think of the price assuming it's in great condition. What should I look for / be aware of when looking at 03s? Thanks for your help.... I'll be searching the board while I await some advice. |
Re: New here.... buying advice for 03 H2
sounds like a good price for the low miles.

Re: New here.... buying advice for 03 H2
Yes, from the research I agree. It is yellow, do they have a lower re-sale value?
Anything I should be aware of with the 03's??? |
Re: New here.... buying advice for 03 H2
I have an 03 and have had good luck with it. The mirrors were the only issue I've had with it, well my front diff also, but that was my doing, my extended warranty paid for new. I would recommend buying an extended warranty for seems like little things always pop up on these things. One thing you'll enjoy to know is the 03's were the only year made my AM General and the others by GM so YEEHAA.:beerchug: :D

Re: New here.... buying advice for 03 H2
I would agree on the extended warranty. Little things will pop up. My instrument cluster went out on my 03'. LF Axle seal had a small leak. Power steering hose had a little leak. Just little things to be expected from a truck that is 5 years old. You will love the truck though! My 03' is for sale:D

Re: New here.... buying advice for 03 H2
Price was just reduced to 25800.00.
It is through a private party so extended warranty is not an option....... Thanks for replies. Sounds like there are no major "first year" issues. It always makes me nervous buying any model of car / truck that is a first year release...... |
Re: New here.... buying advice for 03 H2
Sounds good overall. Offer way less! Market in your area?

Correct me if I am wrong but all H2's are made by AM General under a licensing/marketing agreement with GM. |

I'd give the under carriage a good look see to see if it was wheeled hard or not. Look for obvious dents to the underbody protection etc. |

Re: New here.... buying advice for 03 H2
had my 03 till about 38k miles, only issues were one mirror stop folding in and my wiper motor went twice.

Re: New here.... buying advice for 03 H2
not bad I just picked up mine for $30,000 with 18,000 miles on it. No warranty on it then one month the wiper motor went, that cost me around $320 and found out later that my mirrors are supposed to fold in but only half way, dont care not going to fix that. gonna spend some money on the new kenwood dvd radio coming out in a month.

Re: New here.... buying advice for 03 H2
We have a Yellow 03 and we love it. And if I had an extra $25,000 I would buy it too.
Do have it checked out. Do get a warranty and take care of it and it will take care you for a good while too. ~Richard |
Re: New here.... buying advice for 03 H2
The old style mirrors were always a problem but they can be taken apart and serviced to work good as new. Use the search button as there are articles on this subject.

Re: New here.... buying advice for 03 H2
The others have touched on the minor problems associated with the early models. As far as towing...... I have been very happy with the few times I have towed with mine. I towed my Z06 on a very heavy duty equipment trailer, was told the trailer weighed around 3400-3500 lbs and my car weighs in at 3050-3100 depending on how much fuel is in it. Round trip was around 400 miles and it pulled effortlessly, still was able to pull around 9mpg doing 65. I have pulled my 2000lb 2 place jet ski trailer on over a 1000 mile round trip and averaged 12.3 mpg and you wouldnt even know you had anything hooked to the back. I can assure you that unless you are towing something very very heavy (recommend a Diesel Pick up for that) you will be pleased.

Re: New here.... buying advice for 03 H2
Doesn't sound too bad. I sold my 03 a few years back and only had to have the ignition replaced. Dealer blamed it on the TV's that have to run through the ignition (they installed them). Other than that it was great.
I just pick up an 05 lux with 31K miles for 27.5K. I think I got a pretty good deal. |
Re: New here.... buying advice for 03 H2
Thanks for all the info guys/gals!
I had changed my mind for a while, but I just keep coming back to the Hummer! Is there a place I can go and look at what "luxury" package includes? Or see all the options that are available?? |
Re: New here.... buying advice for 03 H2
I paid 25K for an 04 H2 with 27K miles on it a few months ago. This is my 2nd H2 (first was an 03) and I have had almost no problems, the biggest problem I had was broken windshields and of course they are a pain to park, fit in the garage or carwash but I can deal with that. An 03 should sell for around 18-22K depending on mileage. Common problems include ignition switch, power steering pump, mirrors, but those problems should have already surfaced on a truck that old. I just had to put a battery, hood cables, and an ignition switch in mine but I think that is acceptable for a truck that will be 6 years old.
The H2 is built under contract by AM General at a specially constructed plant in Mishawaka, Indiana, USA. Although it shares GM's GMT820 truck platform with the Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon, those vehicles differ in many ways and are constructed in three other GM plants. 2003 HUMMER H2 Packages 1SA Base Equipment Package - $0 1SB Adventure Series - $2,440 Excludes: [1SA] Base Equipment Package And [1SC] Lux Series; Includes: [B58] Floor Mats, Front & Rear Carpeted/Dealer And [V20] Brush Guard And [UC6] AM/FM 6-Disc In-Dash CD Changer And [V33] First Aid/Supertool/Flashlight And [YE2] Air Suspension Package And [V54] Crossbar Roof Rack - Black/Dealer 1SC Lux Series - $2,800 Excludes: [1SA] Base Equipment Package And [1SB] Adventure Series; Includes: [B58] Floor Mats, Front & Rear Carpeted/Dealer And [AR9] Leather Seating Surfaces And [UC6] AM/FM 6-Disc In-Dash CD Changer And [R13] Chrome Appearance Package And [BVE] Tubular Assist Steps/Dealer info is from here http://www.automotive.com/used-cars/.../h2/index.html |
