I'd like to install my navigation monitor overhead like in the photo below (I'm not sure who's install this is). Does anyone have experience of doing this? I'd like some details regarding how exactly to attach the monitor to the roof moulding and how easy it is to route the cable.
Thanks,
Mark.

Hi Tuscon Beast,
Did you use a similar mounting method to White Beast? How about the cable routing?
Thanks, Mark.

Hi markw

I had a professional shop install the monitor. What they did after we looked a few different ways, was to take a nice L-brace (1 1/2" to 2" on each side) and bend it open to the correct angle to allow the monitor to angle correctly and to sit flush on against the console at the top and bottom point of contact.

The brace was secured to monitor and to the top of the ceiling space covered by console. The wiring was pulled through the already-drilled-hole I had in the console for dealer install off-road lights (so as not to drill another hole in console).

The navigation system (DVD) was placed under back seat - all wiring was routed to the A-frame column down into console. I also add a rear "Lipstick" camera on the rear top of the door (it faces down and out giving me a wide open view of the back). This very funny to watch the people in the car behind me at stops.

As you can see by the picture you selected - it looks like a factory install and that it was made for the location.

Hope this helps

Hi Tucson Beast,
Thanks for the detailed explaination. The install looks very clean (which I like). I think I'll use the same method.
Thanks, Mark.

I have a questions for the Beasts, what size are those monitors?

Tucson Beast 03-22-2004 03:08 AM

Hey NJ H2

My monitor is the Pioneer AVD-W6210 - it is 6.5 inches touch panel 16:9 TFT Active Matrix LCD Color display. It has an Anti-Glare coating and a built in speaker - 2 RCA A/V inputs and 1 A/V output.

Do you mind sharing how much you paid for the navigation? Can you play DVDs on it as well?

NJ H2 03-25-2004 12:21 PM

I like the idea of the overhead monitor. It would work for me especially since I am going to get the back up camera and could hook both NAV and Camera up to it. I am looking at the Alpine 6.5' since I have Alpine NAV already and it's a direct hookup.
Are there any drawbacks, like is it hard to see or do you have ongoing appointments with the Chiropractor?

kalantar

The system alone (monitor/DVD Navigation System) was about $1,500 (without install costs). The Rosen camera was about $275 (without install costs). The Nav DVD System does not play movie/music DVDs - strictly Navigation.

I have no problems with neck - visability is great. everytime I place the H2 into rear gear - the camera comes on in order to allow view of behind - so I have become use to looking up in a natural manner.
