But is the bloody thing going to work in Korea - I am relegated to a samsung POS that works in Korean - I am sure there is some way of fixing that but the manual is in squiggles.

Heard the same thing. I am waiting for the 3G before I buy another phone. The next will def be the iPhone. I want to get the wife one as well, but she says she doesn't care that much for one.

I've got some good news for all of you with the current iPhones - I was talking with the phone monkeys at the AT&T store this afternoon and they said that when the new iPhones come out with 3G that Apple will put out an firmware upgrade which will make the 1st generation phones 3G capable. I haven't bothered to confirm it on the nerd sites for confirmation.

I am at work and therefore have plenty of time to check the nerds - from what I can find the nerds say NO and the journos say YES. Apparently they did not go with 3g originally due to the chipset being too power hungry or something like that - and another thought is that too many people have ripped the thing apart to wriggle around in the guts of them to not have discovered that they are 3g capable. The nerds also point out that they would commit suicide or plant bombs on Job's car or other fanatical acts of lunacy if Apple have been hiding 3g from their uber loyal (specky geek freaks) customers.

So I think - no - not without a hardware upgrade - there seems to be no support for the 3g chipset secretly hidden in the iphone - I wish there was - but it seems unlikely.

That's what I told the phone monkeys, but they tried to convince me that, oh, it was only going to require a firmware update. I'm pretty sure that's not possible.
