Well, rumor had it for years that she was decapitated in that fatal car accident. But, over the years they seemed to try to say it wasn't true, even though the top of the car was sheared off. The 3 adults in the front seat were all killed. Her 3 children sleeping in the back seat survived. (Her daughter is actress Mariska Hargitay.) On the windshield they found blond hair, which some tried to explain as a wig. But, it is now thought that it was her hair and scalp, as she had died of severe head trauma. Horrible death.
