Service 4-Wheel Drive
My 2006 H2 kepts displaying "Service 4-Wheel Drive". I called the dealer and he says it's a prompt that ocurrs @ or about 45k to change lubricate in both front and rear axles. My question, "is this really necessary at this mileage".

Re: Service 4-Wheel Drive
I had the same message at 7k miles. It ended up being a bad 4WD actuator. Not saying your fluids don't need changed, but the actuator has apparently been an issue. You might check into this.

Re: Service 4-Wheel Drive
Serice 4wd message is not a "needs service" message. It only comes on when there is a system fault. Depending on vehicle usage, city driving and mild off roading(no water fording) you can service your diffs at 80,000 km. GM says 100,000km but i always recommend a little earlier just to be on the safe side.

Re: Service 4-Wheel Drive
Thanks for info guys. I purchased the h2 used with 36000 miles on it. From outside and interior appearances it was in nearly new condition. I have never had it in 4-wheel drive. My wife drives it to work each day (10 miles round trip). We have never even had it on a road trip yet. I guess a trip to the dealer is order to find out why the message is appearing.

Re: Service 4-Wheel Drive
I was aware of that. Should have been aliitle more specfic. Have never engaged 4-High or 4-Low. The truck belongs to my wife and I do very little driving with the vehicle. Myself, I have never owned a 2-wheel truck.

If your dealer told you this line of bs you have a right to be PISSED!!! :orly: |
Re: Service 4-Wheel Drive
There is a reprogram for your year of vehicle if it sets a certian code. You need to take it to the dealer and have it checked out. Most likely it just needs to be reprogrammed.

Re: Service 4-Wheel Drive
I had the same problem a couple of months ago while in some really slick ass Georgia mud. I had not transfered into 4 low for quite some time and when I did I got the same message. After several attempts it began working just fine. Now from time to time I transfer it into all the different positions and it always works. From what I've been told it was just a sticky solenoid from lack of use.
