Ping-y type sound in engine ...

I hear a constant pingy, very light vibrating sound from the engine. When I accelerate, it goes away for that moment, so I don't know if rev causes the sound to stop momentarily or what. At first I thought it was the fuel octane, but it's not. I've been using 87 .. then tried 89 .. and then 91, just to see if that sound would stop. It didn't. It's a very light, jingly type sound that's hard to explain. Anyone have anything similar?

Also, does your vehicle color come up right on the monthly OnStar diagnostic report? Mine was right when I had the H3. But on my H2, it comes up red. I told OnStar about it and they told me it's linked to the vin number. Well ..lol.. I have a Graystone, not red.

Thanks.

First thing I'd check is the undercarriage cage 'almost' touching the exhaust pipe. Seemed the most common cause for any vibration caused noises that is intermittent and goes away with acceleration.

Thanks H. I'll have the local dealer check exactly that when I go in for a couple of other items. :D

Dropped off the H2 to the dealer for some warranty issues today. That 'jingly, pingy sound', they think, is either a heat shield or a belt. It's annoying, so I hope they locate the source.

We have an 03 and I'll bet it is the large under carriage shield.
Ours does it at low RPM and stops around 1500 RPM or so.

LOL .. I thought about doing that, but it's too new for that type of carnage. :D
This is what the dealer found and took care of .. "Serp belt is glazed, debris in pulleys - remove belt, clean pulley and change belts."
