Cutting boards
Anyone have a nice cutting board? I don't mean the $5 one you pick up at Wal-Mart, I mean a real good one.
Was it worth the money? I was thinking about a John Boos block. http://www.johnboos.com/residential/...tegory=jbc0002 They supply the White House. Any opinions here? |

We have 6 different types but our favorite happens to be made out of bamboo. Along the lines of that renewable thing...and JA Henkels knives.

Re: Cutting boards
Hadn't thought about bamboo.
We have a couple of those plastic type of cutting boards and one glass one. I hate it when the wife uses the glass one because I can hear the knives dulling with each slice. I haven't mastered the art of sharpening with the steel. Last time I tried I dulled the damn knife.:o |
Re: Cutting boards
Glass ...no way
Plastic...Poultry only Wood...the only way to fly I have 3, one with a trough for slicing at the table. The second one is larger for slicing and prep work near the sinks and the last is a 12" thick with legs, stands about 28" off the floor that I have used but its more for show...got it as a gift about35 years ago (nice gift)... Spend just 5 minutes on proper clean up and they will last a lifetime if a good board. |

I like this sharpener, it's fool proof. So as long as your not a fool....
The one I got cost me a hundred bucks, but it's worth it. . |

Very informative - watch it - I have my knives sharpened by a guy that drives the exact sam van. |
Re: Cutting boards
At first I though this was a thread about my stomach. But that would be "wash" board.

:giggling: We bought ours a few years ago and it is larger than that one. I figured you'd get the idea though. We just got so tired of me screwing up the knives by using the steel that we drove to Seattle and bought it. I'm sure we could of had it cheaper. But you know how it is, you want something when YOU want something! http://www.surlatable.com/ |
Re: Cutting boards
BOOS will be fine. Get a big one so the food stays on it and there is plenty of room to slice and dice. When it starts to look crappy and cut up, just sand it smooth.
WAIT A MINUTE! Isn't buying your wife a cutting board right up there with buying her a vacuum cleaner?:OWNED: |
Re: Cutting boards
I almost forgot...wipe it down with some mineral oil once a month.
