Friggen Bike Rack

I need a an "L" -Cheapo Bike Rack. I did a search and got some posts from 2006 and early 2007. Those racks looked like they were Boo-Coo Bucks..!!

Anyone recommend a Cheap Rack that will fold down and lower the bike and most Importantly Let You Open The Cargo Door with a 33" spare on the door? My rig has the Off road option and a Factory 2" Receiver

I just need to get from Point A to Point B and hang my crappy 10 year old Sears Roebuck 12 speed on the rack. I am not a big time rider. Just need to work out a little and lose a few pounds.

Gotta go 9 miles to get to the Boardwalk and the Chickies....:clapping:

I don't think there are any "cheap" folding reciever mount bike racks.

For your short haul to the beach a spare tire mounted bike rack would probably work.

You might be able to modify the mount for this gas can to accept a bike rack?

Heres a great option, $159:
http://www.thuleracks.com/product.asp?dept_id=8&sku=963

but you may need the extension to clear the width of the tire:
go to the spare parts breakdown and look at part #B, they have an optional one thats longer but I don't see it on the site

Thanks D-Dan..There are spare tire rack mounts also that I have seen that bolt right to the spare tire like the one tnd2 linked me to in the post below yours..

The only hassle is that I run a Soft Fabric Tire Cover to protect the Spare from UV damage. It would be a real pain removing it and installing the rack on the spare each time.

I bought this Bike Rack from Walmart for $84.00 in the store..before I posted here. The problem is that when you remove the vertical arm from the receiver stalk ...the stalk is about 1 1/2 " to high and interferes with the tire and door opening.

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...uct_id=3172641

My solution I think is to cut that 1 1/2" off and re-drill a new bolt hole so it will clear the tire. I thought I'd post here first in case there was someting better out there before I cut it and couldn't return i t.

Thanks for your help and input.:beerchug:

Hey thanks tnd2 for the reply.... I've seen those as I was surfing around the web before I bought the Walmart job. See my post above to Destert Dan. So..I think I will Hack up that rack and modify it to make it work.

Thanks...:beerchug:

Re: Friggen Bike Rack

buy a cheap hitch basket then order the brackets or make your own. for the bikes... I bought mine from cabelas (http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0013473510248a&type=product&cmCat=SEAR CH&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&QueryText=bike+rack&N=4887&Ntk=Produc ts&Ntx=mode+matchall&Nty=1&Ntt=bike+rack&noImage=0 )

Then you just don't have a scrap of metal sitting around in the winter also if you go to the beach it's really handy to put your sandy boogie boards on instead of in your truck...

This is the spare tire rack that I got from Acadamey for $58. It's not the style you are lookin for but it works great. You can still open the cargo door if you don't have the 2 anchor straps attached. They are quick release so it very easy to undo them to access the door. I modified the rack by putting a foam insulator around the cross bar that rests on the wheel/chrome rim to keep it from scratching it. When you are not using it it folds flat for easy storage. Much better deal than the overpriced Thule rack or similar that has to bolt to the wheel.

This one looks sweet... Where do those bottom straps tie off too..?
Do they tie off to the what looks like tubes running down the rear of the spare?

Also...It looks like I could keep my soft tire cover on the spare also. Can you confirm that?

Thanks..

There are metal hooks on each strap. I attach mine to the right and left of the trailer hitch on the metal bumper. The fit perectly and do not scratch the bumper. The straps start at the middle of the tire in the picture and run to the bottom. There are no more tubes below the silver cross bar even though the pic kinda looks like it. You should be able to keep the soft cover on just fine. It will help protect your wheel from being scratched by the silver cross bar too. I don't think this rack will work with the hard tire covers though.

Hope that helps!

OK, here is one for $64.99 + $12.99 shipping http://www.savannajones.com/products/92034_16_07.htm

The model # is different (Model 304ST) but according to MSN Shopping they are the same product.

"Fits nearly all externally mounted spare tires, including those with Over the Tire third brake lights. Fully assembled - sets-up and installs in seconds. Patented tie-down system individually secures and protects bicycles. Dimensions: 29 x 18 x 5 Product Instructions - Note 303D is the same as 304ST"

Thanks Dude..

I just got off the phone with a salesman from Academy Sports in Tenn. They have it in stock for the same price shown in your first link $58.99. I gave him my info and he's forwarding it to the shipping dept who will call me back and give me the total price with shipping.

Tenn is closer to me so the UPS charges I hope will be cheaper. So ..just gotta wait to hear from them.

Thanks for your help..:beerchug:

Now I just know that this "bike rack" is going to be used for some other purpose, other than hauling a bicycle. There has to be a sinister plan involved.VNV,please tell us what it is.You're killing me here.
