mchummer: I just measured my carrier... it is 75" long x 32" wide x 14" high. Hope this helps. Gary (H2-T2)

That will do. Thanks.

H2-T2, would it be possible to tell me how the hard carrier installs on the factory roof rack? (I'm trying to find out if I can adapt a larger hard top carrier for the H2, but can't figure an easy/secure attachment!). Thanks!
|
H2Finally: Installing hard carrier...here goes:You will notice that your crossbars have a soft plastic strip across the top..take the keyed endcaps off the crossbars and simply peel the strips up and out...now you have large slots on the top of the crossbars...the hard carriers have upside down "T",s which slide into the slots and tighten on the inside of the carrier...since the crossbars have a large adjustment range, you could put a larger carrier on as long as you have the "T"'s to slide in.....(easier to do than to explain), but once you take off the keyed endcaps, it will all make sense...hope this helps.. Finally,
Just drill you some holes in the roof and stick you some toggle bolts in there to attach to. Make sure to cinch them tight so the wifey won't hear them rattle. ![]() |
Thanks H2-T2. Sounds like this inverted "T" is too custom for me to duplicate, unless they are available as sparepart? Oh well, back to the drawing boards -- maybe Paragon's idea will work..

H2F, you can duplicate the "T" with bolt and washer from your local hardware store. Maybe even a carraige bolt would work. Just make sure it is wide enough and strong. Don't get anything wimpy.
|
H2F: Sorry if I made the "T" sound too complicated...it is not. Like KenP said, just an inverted bolt with washer larger than the slot, so bolt won't pull out....trust me, you can do it....Gary (H2-T2)

Ok, does it then tighten only vertically -- to the top opening of the roof rack? When I removed the end cap, the aluminum doesn't look that strong. Won't sudden stops push the bolt against the "lip" and dent it?? Damn, I wish I know someone who has it locally for me to see or take photo! I can't find any picture/diagram or even install instruction on the net!
Thanks for the info guys!! |
Slide the upside-down bolt head with washer into the slot...the threaded portion of the bolt goes up thru the hole in bottom of carrier (4 total) then use wing nuts to tighten down carrier...get the largest washer that will fit inside the rail..it will make a very strong mount. You could also go to "google" and do a search for Thule (I think this is the company that makes the H-2 carrier) get their phone number, tell them what you have, and I am sure they will send you the proper mounting bolts. If going on vacation, I highly recommend the hard Carrier.....Gary (H2-T2)

Here are some pics of the hard carrier(s) mounted. My only question is why did this guy need 2? Lotsa stuff?

I have a Thule Evolution roof box and was wandering, being the Hummer box is made by Thule can the mounting hardware be purchased seperatley?
|
Doug: From what I have heard, Thule is a quality company. I think it is worth a phone call to them for the mounting hardware. I bet they will fix you up. Gary (H2-T2)

Thule customer service...1-800-238-2388. You could also check with Jason, maybe he has some ideas....Gary (H2-T2)

McHummer, I swear I did a find before, but didin't get that link!!
![]() ![]() H2-T2, I'm gonna try that. THANKS ALL! ![]() ![]() ![]() |
H2F, the easiest thing to do is mount a Lay-z-boy up there and let the wifey ride it. Of course those words could be rearranged to mean something totally different.
