DUBAI Wheel Covers !!!!!!! LOL
Wheely angry
Last Updated : Tuesday 26 Aug, 2008 - A marketing campaign went horribly wrong for one bungling Dubai-based company when its staff pinched wheel covers from drivers? 4x4s and then threw them away by mistake.Residents in The Gardens were left stunned after two men removed the wheel covers on Sunday night and swapped them with replacements displaying advertising for a firm called Danube Building Materials. The company has admitted the blunder and said its staff were supposed to ask the vehicle owners whether they wanted the new Danube wheel covers to replace their old ones. They did not ask, and instead swapped covers across the estate without permission. It is unclear how many covers were binned - Danube says the number was around 25 but one resident put the number at more than 100. Andy, a 32-year-old real estate broker from England, says his Hummer was one of the many vehicles targeted. ?It was the most ridiculous piece of advertising I can think of and I?m really very angry about it,? he told 7DAYS. ?They had stolen everyone?s original wheel covers. I called Danube and grilled them about it and they started blaming their labourers who did the work.?The men did not ask if we wanted these new covers - they just did it. The original covers cost a bit and are not easy to get your hands on.?If a company thinks they can do that to any cars they want and get away with it - they?ve got another thing coming.?Andy said his wheel cover was black, with ?Hummer H3? written on it. Spare wheel covers for Hummer H3?s can cost up to dhs1,500.?Now I?ve got an ugly one - it?s bright white with a picture of a woman on the phone. There?s writing all over it and a phone number - it wouldn?t look nice on anyone?s car.?I know people say there?s no such thing as bad advertising but surely this is.? A spokesman for Danube yesterday apologised for the mistake. ?We asked our labour people to check with the customers first before removing the covers. If they said ?okay? then we would replace them,? he said. ?But they have thrown the old covers away. I do not think we can get them back.?The spokesman said Danube would not be buying replacement wheel covers for the residents affected.Police at Jebel Ali said they had been notified of the incident and were investigating. paul.mclennan@7days.ae |

Re: DUBAI Wheel Covers !!!!!!! LOL
They may want to reconsider their stance on replacing the wheel covers. I think in a place like Dubai they may wind up getting their arms chopped off if they don't fix this quick.
