Best tires?

What's up? I'm a nube to the forum. So intro, I'm in the Army and stationed in Iraq right now. When I get back I'm gonna buy an H3. So right now I'm doing my research to find and buy exactly what I want. I'm deployed out of Texas but grew up in Indiana. I love wheelin, I'm not one of those schmucks who get s atruck lifts it and the damn thing never gets dirty. I love taking my truck out and putting it through the paces, finding out what it won't defeat and then building it till it will. I lost my last truck last may to a flash flood in Texas, RIP. I was out wheelin to a new fishing hole when I when through something a little deeper then I should have. Well, it water logged the engine, my buddy couldn't pull me out, and then came the terrential down pour. Need less to say I was in a low on the back side of a damned up lake, and with in the hour my truck was completly submerged. Insurance took care of everything and I deplayed a month later. So now I'm chillen in Iraq, no car note and no insureance payment. Just raking in the cash and dreaming about this H3 I'm gonna build when I get back. Also, when I get back I'm moving to Anchorage, Alaska. Can't wait. So much exploring and wheelin!

I just thought I'd ask everyone their opinions of what is the best offroad tire. My last truck, may she rest in piece, had BFG M/Ts in a 33x11r16. I never had a problem with those tires. Very rarely had to put my truck into 4x4. But for my next truck I've been looking at getting either the Toyo Open Country M/Ts or the new BFG M/T-KM2's. So what do you all think? I've never had and all-terrains.

It kinda depends on what you want to do. I am not really into rock crawling. And after a couple of mud trips and the required clean up, I try to stay relatively dry. Heh!

I had a great all around tire on my H2. They were BFG All Terrain T/A KO. Fairly quiet on the pavement, great mileage, and plenty good for my off-road needs. I am thinking of getting the same for my H3 when it needs new shoes.

I have the toyo open country m/t's. I only went with a 33 inch tire - but if you lift it - you are likely going to want 35's. Many on this forum run 35's with no lift, but that doesn't suit my tastes for a daily driver.

The toyo's aren't that loud compared to swampers or mud-grapplers. I'm unsure how they compare to the km2's. The toyo's are, in my opinion, an all-round m/t tire: it will get you through mud, rain, snow, all the while delivering very nice street manners, some longevity and an aggressive look. But as you probably know, as with the km2's - verrrry pricey. For strictly off-road, I still like iroks.

I have the AT's on my truck. Love em, but would like a more aggressive tire for some of the trails. I haven;t aired them down low enough yet though. I had my tire delfators set to high for the H3. They hold up well on my other trucks I had them on though.

I had Goodyear AT/S tires on my H3 with the stock rims and loved them. They are good in snow and mud and quiet on the highway. I would say the only negative was they wore down after 30,000 miles and had to be replaced, but the earlier AT/S tires (2005 and 2006) had a softer rubber compound according to Goodyear and the new ones wear better.

No, I had the 285/75-16 Goodyear Wrangler ATS tires and in 2005 they were a custom Goodyear order, but they were available. If you want them, you might have to find a dealer with NOS ones.

Defining best is unique to what you are doing. I have 2 sets of tires. The Toyo m/t open country 35's are great off road. However they sing on the highway and give crap mpg. The Bridgestone 33's are great highway and give a quiet smooth ride all around. Not aggressive enough for trails.

Swapping and rotating the Toyo's is heavy if you do it yourself the tire and rim is over 80 lbs. However, They do wear well and cant be beat off road:raar:

I was thinking about going with the SS M16 tires on a green H3. They have an M16 round on the side wall. They look badASss! And I think it would be sweet to go with the Hummer military look.

Have heard good things about the SuperSwampers. I have Mickey Thompson MTZ's now and love them, crawl through anything and not obnoxious on the road. Have run alot of BFG A/T's and they were really good tire. Competed in mud runs with them and did pretty respectable (just air them down to around 18-20 psi).

Don't think that you would go wrong with any of the above, just depends on what you want to do with them.
