Discussed many times and I agree we don't buy Hummers for gas mileage. But there's been a lot of questions on whether some of the aftermarket devices increase MPG. I recently installed the Hypertech III and Airaid filter/MIT. Now I'm a very consistant driver. To & from my office every day with few other trips. I don't reset my AMPG everytime I fill up. It's been 8 months since I last set it. My average MPG has been 11.8 and just as important the average speed was 26 MPH. Belive it or not 75% of my daily ride is on the interstate but with our traffic and stop lights long enough to have sex with the wife and still wait for the green (that otta get some comments) it kills the MPH average. I reset everything last Friday. I'm at 12.2 MPG at 24 average MPH. Looks like an improvement but way to early to tell. I'll keep you all posted after a few more fill ups.

Anybody MPG go to hell when it get's very cold out? I was getting 11.2 and for the last few weeks I'm down at 9.1. No change in driving stye either. It's been below freezing here almost every day for about 2 weeks.

During very hot weather the psi usually goes up quite a bit and while it gives you a little boost in MPG it will also cause the center of the tread to wear faster. Checking your tire psi should be done on a routine basis not only for optimum mpg but to ensure even wear on the treads. That was my public service message for the year. ![]() |

We have LOOOOONG stop lights! Sometimes up to a minute and a half. That should allow you to do it twice

Maybe that's a long time to you, but not most people.
Plus I don't want to end up like Dennis and get caught in the act. |
I should be getting royalties for that pic.

To continue with the public service message, colder air is much more dense and therefore, with the H2 being as aero as a brick, it takes more power to push through.
PLUS, they add some **** to gas in the winter, who knows what that does. ummm.........let's see........ well, it's colder so the grease and oil is less efficient at reducing friction. ok...ok.... you have more clothes on in the winter and that adds extra weight. one more.....hmmm..... well..... the days are shorter and you use your lights more which draws more energy from the alternator which in turn takes more fuel. ![]() ![]() |
Thurs 1/19/05 13.0 mpg @ 26 amph. 1.2 mpg increase so far. Still too early to tell final result.

I think they ship out crappy gas in the winter.
Prices went from $1.58 to $1.75 in 2 weeks. WTF???? ![]() Stacy |
$1.75??? I wish! Try living in the UK! At the current exchange rate, gas costs us $7.48 a gallon!!!
Driving a hummer is expensive here... ![]() |
I am afraid to check mine lately, we have had highs in the -5 to -10 range the last week or so and the lows have been from -15 to -25 I am sure that kicked it in the ass a little.

I'm happy that Kong has gone from a one week old average of 10.1 to a four week old avg of 10.7MPG. Guess its broken in...

I'm just trying to figure out the 20-cent price jump in a 2 week span - haven't heard anything about the Saudis screwing with oil production, and it's not heavy road-trip season. Just didn't make a lot of sense for prices to skyrocket all of a sudden. Stacy |
Stacy it has been wierd. last week I had a full tank and the next day I'm driving by stations showng $1.57. I think alright it is getting reasonable. I went home that night and by the next evening I'm driving by same gas stations as I go thru town and the price is $1.75. I've asked out of curiousity and not a person knows or has heard anything. Usually see bad news reports and then You can say OH well here it comes.

Semi-final report. As of this morning 13.1 mpg @ 26 amph. I don't see it improving much more. That's a 1.3 mpg improvement at a cost of $576 for the Airaid Jr & Hypertech III. Add'l benefit is a bit better performance. You'll have to draw your own conclusions. I'll post a long term report later.
