HUMMER TAX

This was on Glenn Becks daily BLOG today:

March to Socialism - Hummer tax?

Massachusetts is using the environment to implement its latest attempt at another socialist tax scheme - it's called the 'Hummer tax.' They want to charge more for registration on large SUV?s and give discounts on registration for hybrids and fuel efficient cars. Does anyone think that SUV sales will slow down because of a registration fee? Not likely. Tax the rich, give to the poor - SUV's still polluting the earth. (Transcript, Insider Audio)

Re: HUMMER TAX

This is over and above the $0.19 proposed increase in the gas tax.

I live in RI, right on the line between the states (not that much of RI isn't on a state line). Fuel prices are about $0.22 cheaper in Mass than RI.

RI already did the increase in the registration thing - they just didn't tell anyone first. The last renewal (Jan) for the hummer was $150 for 2 years.
Plus the $1.50 "technology fee", along with the reminder that it HAS to be done online or thru the mail - you can't renew at a registry in person. The folks are just too busy for that I guess. Add that to the $690 in personal property tax (excise tax?) this year, plus the $250 "fee" that the water department charges for having my vehicle registered in this state. It is seriously starting to rival my car insurance bill (you know, the one with the surcharge for "uninsured drivers" - even though it is totally illegal to drive without insurance and one must show proof to get registrations and renewals.

Is this typical of all states?

Sorry - just "hummin"..:twak:

What's the problem with a Hummer Tax? You folks shouldn't feel so bad for contributing extra money to the general welfare of your states. Really. You can afford it.

Re: HUMMER TAX

Got the same in the UK however they have fooked up. The tax increase is based on the CO2 emissions - but any Hummer pre 08 has not had a CO2 emission test for the UK tax bands and therefore is exempt from the tax hike. Got a Range Rover or a Land Rover then prepare for a near ?500 annual road tax bill. Hummers pre 08 stay at the normal ?185 a year. Though it is possible to change the tax band of an H2 to a lorry and get it cheaper than most cars on the road.

On my last emissions test the air coming out of the exhaust was cleaner than the air going in - Time to clean the air in the cities - everyone drive a Hummer........
