normal oil pressure indicator position

ok after having a H2 for 4 years I finally upgraded to an H1. I have noticed that the oil pressur indicator really only uses the 1st 1/4 of the gauge(gauge is marked in 4 marks) Just wondering if the gauge normally on reads that low or is maybe gauge faulty? Most all other vehicles I have driven normal ranges are generally 1/2 mark or higher. I have seen no difference with either cold oil or hot oil--even right after a oil change , on start up needle was only in the lower 1/4 of gauge.. I am believing it to be a faulty gauge and just considering add a mechanical gauge to confirm this.

Mine runs at about 1/4 when at idle and 1/2 when on the road.

mine starts off at 40 when at idle in the mornings when cold, after she's warmed up she'll drop down to about 20psi at idle or about 1/4.

The easiest way to tell whether or not your oil pressure is OK would be to hook it up to a scanner and see what it tells you. The gauges in these trucks are less then stellar.

Yeah that is what I thought but just wanted to be sure is all. Doubt there is a problem with the oil pressure after driving it back over 700 miles when I bought it. I havent heard or seen anything to indicate low pressure so guessing either the gauge or sender is faulty and just replace/up grade gauge.

ok found specs on amg site--6 psi at idle and 30 psi @ 2000 rpm with oil at 70 C so going to call it good ..thanks

Re: normal oil pressure indicator position

When the engine is not running and the ignition switch is turned on, the warning light illuminates. If the vehicle is equipped with a gauge there will be no indication of pressure. When the engine is started, oil pressure will compress the diaphragm in the pressure switch, opening the contacts and cause the light to go out or, in the case of a gauge, a positive pressure reading will be indicated.
