Since we're all doing step bars....
After seeing hdmlnium's step bar pics, I decided to go ahead and install mine.
My only issue till now was that I wanted it to match the texture on the factory steps. So I painted them with a rocker schulz and sprayed them with a satin black spray bomb. Here's what they look like, the texture is right on the money. ![]() ![]() ![]() I'll install them today but the truck is still on the lift. I'm still waiting on my rear coils. Of course I am.... it snowed last night. :( |
Re: Since we're all doing step bars....
The million dollar question is how do I do that to mine and what do i buy?

Re: Since we're all doing step bars....
Oh yeah, I'm sure you were waiting for an answer...lol.
The yellow can is 3M, ask for part number 05911. The black is satin black trim paint, you can use any brand. You can buy this at any bodyshop supply place. If you have a Carquest or Napa around, if they have a paint dept, they should have it. Just make sure you degrease the parts first, I'd clean them with a degreaser and then wash them with ajax or comet. Even if you haven't armor-all'd them, the grease from the road will still be stuck in them. When you spray the chip guard and/or the paint, use many coats, very lightly sprayed. In this particular case, in trying to get the "texture", you'll waste more than you'll use. If anyone is near Charlotte, NC, you can bring them to me and I'll do them for free. HTH's, Mark PS. If you're changing these out for the first time, you'll need new clips. DO NOT go to the Hummer dealer, you'll pay out the ass for them. You can order the same clips from a chevy dealer at a much lesser price. |
Re: Since we're all doing step bars....
I bought this set of flares/steps with the wider wheel well flares as well. They were all painted nice and glossy black until 1 or 2 wheeling adventures. Now they look even better with Line-X!
