Torsion bar bolts....quick question.

When I put the lift kit on, the truck after adjusting the torsion bars sits level.

My question is, one bolt is about 1/2" in more than the other. Does that mean I need to reindex the bars or is it common that the bolts are not screwed in the same length.

Thanks,

Mark

My truck sits at stock height and one screw is waaaaayyyyyy lower than the other one. It's almost lower than the frame rail. It's been that way forever. I know cuz I got under there once and looked at it myself. :D I guess I'm lucky I haven't ever sheared it off on a rock or a curb at the mall ;) :D

Sorry I can't give you a technical breakdown of WHY it's that way, but that's how it's aligned. If you can reindex them, that's what I'd do, cuz if I were you I'd be really picky.

:D

Re: Torsion bar bolts....quick question.

The only thing that bothers me is if the bolts are in at difference depths, the pre-load on the torsion bars may be unequal.

Unequal load on the torsion bars could create an uneven ride (mild effect at best) but more importantly, a good dip in the road would twist the suspension in a wierd way.

None of that is probably more than minute at the best but still a concern.

Thanks,

Mark

Mark, the bolts being uneven is OK. They are that way form teh factory. Every one of my HUMMERS was that way.

Really, the bolts being uneven is okay. :)

Like the others have said, it is okay that they are different. I wouldn't be surprized if the L/R side were not different spring rates since the rear coils are that way to compensate for weight distribution.
