Time to replace my front brake pads, is it a diy job?

I have changed brake pads on a few cars and trucks myself in the past and was wondering if the H2 is also a job I can handle in my garage? I never did any with ABS? The rotors are smooth except one front has a hair line groove in it. Should it be turned with one tiny groove around it or can I get away with that?

Its not hard at all if you have some experience. Just unbolt the wheel the caliper, press in the caliper piston grease all guides and the pin slide in the new pads and bolt everything back up. There are more steps thats just a brief run down. If your doing brakes get both rotors cut it doesnt hurt and everything is apart anyway. I always get my rotors cut when I do a brake job. Costs like $15 bucks and your good to go. Just my opinion.

My two cents is that due to the REALLY long life of the brakes on the H2, may be worth just changing the rotors out when you do the pads.

I agree with Luv2Camp. Take the rotors off. Go to the parts store and have them measure them to see if they can even be cut. Odds are they are no longer in spec. Just depends on how many miles you have on them.

You should get twice that mileage. Are they squealing at all?

I bought my new pads today and took the front wheels off to start the install. Now that I could get a good look at the pads, they where in great shape. I was thinking it was time to replace them but I was wrong. mbdougl they do squeal every once in a while, but very rare.

You should cut or replace the rotors when doing a brake job.:raar:

it's all about the friction .
