brake bleeding

I want to bleed my system due to it's fluid age and was wondering if anyone has used a vacuum type bleeder? Does the ABS system with scan tool usage need to be performed? Or can I bleed the sytem alone without performing the abs auto-bleed with the scan tool(that I don't have) thanks!!

I am not going to have a "great answer" for you because the manual shows three different ways to bleed the brakes. One is with pressure, second is the old manual way and third is doing it with the scan tool but that part is seperate from the other two options. I'd say go for it but ya might not get the fluid changed out that is in the ABS unit :(

Re: brake bleeding

so if I bleed the system manually, foot pump method, I should be ok without using a scan tool and messing with the ABS? I just want to flush the fluid out of the resoviour and lines as it's very dark brown. Anyone have experience with this and can comment?

thanks:beerchug: !!

I was too afraid of causing an issue with the ABS so not sure if I wasted several quartsr of brake fluid or not.... I used a mighty vac and sucked out the fluid until it was almost empty and fileld it with new fluid. Ran the truck for a while so the brakes were being used and repeated the process several times. Figure I replaced the majority of fluid???

I did this same thing with the tranny fluid before I dropped the pan and replaced the filter(used an oil suction machine via the dipstick)

luv2camp, are you talking about sucking the fluid from the master cylinder resoviour only or through the brake caliper nipples:o with the mightly vac?
