some jerk hit my drivers side mirror and cracked the mirror
 

The other day I was driving my 03 H2 and noticed a nice crack in my drivers side mirror. I know it was not cracked the other day. Went outside and checked it out and sure enough a small nick is in the chrome housing. Some dump **** probably smacked their mirror on mine in the local mall while my truck was parked.

Anyway, I did a quick search on ebay and was blown away that a replacement unit is $300+. However I found some companies selling just the replacement glass - you simply break away the broken glass off the backing and glue the new mirror to the housing.

My only question is, will this kill my auto dimming feature? I do not know how the dimmer works - is it a specific mirror/glass that does that?

The replacement glass is about $25 versus $300 for a whole new unit. If my dimmer will be gone with the glass replacement, whats you opinion. Would you pay the extra $275 just to have the dimmer work again? I personally like it, but much sure if I $275 like it.

Hi its in the glass, and if mine was broken i would replace it with the factory one. I drive alot a night and i hate the glare from headlights.

I'd check with a glass company. Both of my bodyshops buy from a glass company that sells replacement glass for a few bucks (as opposed to an entire mirror)

Point is, they may have the glass that dims since it was an original equipment mod.

hi Mark, i checked gm parts for DNA and 2003/05 glass only is $276 and 2006/07 glass only $170 i am not sure what is different.

Isn't 2006 the new style mirrors?

If so, 10 bucks says they changed the design of how they are mounted to the actual mirror.

If not, they're just greedy bastards.

I think you would have to have a total mirror replacement since they do
have defrosters built into the mirrors on the 2003 Hummers. ~Richard

Not saying that isn't true but we replace many "just glass" parts of the mirror from aftermarket companies and they have the heated strips already in the back.
