I'm such a HUMMER NEWB!
I drove out of my driveway today and did the usual sharp turn one way, then sharp turn the other way.... just like anyone would do when they back out of a drive way.
I felt this jerking and the engine wanted to die. After a couple tests I check the power steering fluid, and it's low. OK.. I think. Just top this sucker off and I'm good to go. Nope... Just as I was about to call the dealer I realized I was in 4 hi LOCK... :giggling: :giggling: What a tool.... You don't think I damaged anything do you? |
Re: I'm such a HUMMER NEWB!
Out of the 2003 owners Manual
Driving in the 4HI Lock or 4LO Lock positions for a long time on dry or wet pavement could
and tires.shorten the life of your vehicle’s drivetrain I think the key phrase is "long time", if it was a short distance/time I would not worry about it. |
Re: I'm such a HUMMER NEWB!
Don't worry! I've had it do that off roading on rock, had the whole Hummer hopping up and down once after getting back on pavement and forgetting. For short periods, don't worry X2.

Re: I'm such a HUMMER NEWB!
Same here from us, we towed my brothers F150 4/door out of beach sand and I drove 1/2 mile in 4lo and it really acted weird when I turned around
in a parking lot. After switching enerything back it was fine. ~Richard |

Re: I'm such a HUMMER NEWB!
I have put mine back in the driveway after a heavy snow here leaving it locked in 4hi.... only to get back in the next day after the streets have been all cleared..... as soon as I cut the wheel backing out I can instantly feel that I forgot to put it back to normal :D
