Aftermarket DRL wiring

I've searched around and found hints at how to do this but no step by step so... I 've mounted a set of aftermarket 55 watt halogen DRLs that have their own harness and switch to mount on the dash. I would rather wire them so that they function like the OEM DRLs so I don't have to worry about switching them on and off. Does anyone know how to do this?
Thanks!

hi to have them hooked up like the DRL they will not be on at night. Is that what you want?

I have done the DRL mod that lets them come on at night. I just need to know at what point to have the new harness splice into the existing DRL wiring and not have to use the manual switch that came with the new 55 wat DRLs.

Re: Aftermarket DRL wiring

Hi the best way is to install a fused relay harness and let either side left or right of DRL control the relay. Using the pos wire from the DRL plug run to the + control side of the relay. This will let them work with no manual switch. Hope this helps.

I'm far from an expert on this, but if you want them to work like stock, what's wrong with cutting the wires at the factory lights and splicing them to the new lights?

Hi he doesn't want them to work like stock. He has done the DRL mod. If you just cut the stock wires and join them you will have problem because the stock DRL use about 6 amps and use a 10 amp fuse i think. The total of his new lights is 15 to 30 amps you would pop the fuse or you could run the chance of a wire melt down. The stock wires are 18 or 16 gauge wire and its not enough to handle those new lights safely.

hi SnoopFogg, make sure you use 14 gauge wire on #30 and #87 and the ground wires.
