how to remove center dash/hvac cover
I need to reconnect onstar antenna, previous owner disconnected. I backed out both allen bolts that I could see right up front, but the big cover doesn't seem to want to move and i was afraid to gorilla it.
2006 H2 w/nav. Anyone done this and can tell me procedure.? thibble |
Re: how to remove center dash/hvac cover
Its alot more involved than that. You need to remove the center console first.
1. Open your center console and remove screws that hold the bucket in the console and console lid. 2. Remove shifter with torx bit and pull the shifter/cupholder bezel. 3. There are some bolts 10mm I think. That hold the plastic console to steel. They are under the console bucket and shifter bezel remove them. 4. Then there are 2 screws in the bottom of the center dash bezel remove them, then remove the upper 2 allens. It's a pain. have fun lol |

Many thanks. It'll be fun watching the wife freak out as I start taking apart her new hummer (new to her anyway).

Yep...did mine recently. It's fairly quick but putting it back together is challenging as well so allow plenty of time!

Re: how to remove center dash/hvac cover
There is a raised portion on the front cowling, at the bottom.
If you grind this off you no longer have to remove the center console to remove the front cowling. If someone has theirs off post a pic and I'll highlight the area that needs to be ground away. |

Be nice to have info since I'll be going back in to do Bluestar eventually. If no one else posts I'll post a pic of mine while its off.

Re: how to remove center dash/hvac cover
How's the fit after the grinding? Just as tight or a bit sloppy?

Re: how to remove center dash/hvac cover
It was a bit loose, but it works out good for me because I put a remote control between the face and the middle compartment which in turn tightens things up.
You could just as easily add a more stiff, thicker piece of foam where the middle console meets the face, OR it would be just fine if you weren't too picky. I could snap photos of the fitment with and with out the remote so you all can see if you want. |
