CHROME STRIP ON H2 MIRROR REMOVAL?
Dose anyone know if the strip can be removed from the mirror? I was thinking of having it Line-X'ed (for a blacked out look). It looks like there are some philip head screws behind the mirror glass but they might only be accessible before the mirror glass was epoxied in? Can the mirror be disassembled, dose it need to be removed from the truck first? I can't believe nobody makes an over lay kit.

Re: CHROME STRIP ON H2 MIRROR REMOVAL?
Me too! The whole fromt of my mirrors is like a chrome cap. I would like them to just be black. I am wondering if they come off, and if there are black ones for it, or would one have to paint/coat the chrome ones.

Re: CHROME STRIP ON H2 MIRROR REMOVAL?
Not sure how, but the chrome on my mirrors was painted over to match my flat black mirrors. I only know this because when it got scratched, I could see the chrome.:grouphug:

On the old style mirrors they make a black out overlay that can be purchased. |
Re: CHROME STRIP ON H2 MIRROR REMOVAL?
I can only offer advice here and I am not 100% sure. I changed the mirror glass in my 2005 mirrors to the Muth signal glass. Which I highly recommend. Anyway, in the 2005 mirrors the glass just clips to ring behind the mirror glass. It just pops off. The ring is on the motor assemly. Then the motor assembly is mounted with a coupled of screws. The outside back of the mirror is screwed from the inside. You could also download the instruction sheet to install the Muth glass for you year H2. That would give you the instructions to get the glass out.

Yep, I could see some Philips head screws in there. ;)

BTT, did you have to remove the glass than? |
Re: CHROME STRIP ON H2 MIRROR REMOVAL?
I actually sanded and painted mine on the truck. I used Por15, it's super sticky... so much in fact it takes over a week to get off your hands.

Tim, You do have to remove the mirror glass to get to the screws in order to get the chrome insert off. |
Re: CHROME STRIP ON H2 MIRROR REMOVAL?
So the glass is NOT epoxied to the inside of the mirror? I'm talking about the new mirror style, not the old ones. Because I would like to pop those out myself and do some custom work with them. Just pull out of the clips?

Re: CHROME STRIP ON H2 MIRROR REMOVAL?
Yes but I believe that thread was for the old mirrors..I'm just wondering if the glass is held in the same way. I want to remove the small chrome strip on my '08 mirror so I can paint it.

Re: CHROME STRIP ON H2 MIRROR REMOVAL?
The mirror is supposed to snap into a plastic cap...check this out: http://parts.nalleygmc.com/showAssem...ssembly=392540

Re: CHROME STRIP ON H2 MIRROR REMOVAL?
Thank you sir..that's all I needed! I've been looking this up and it seems like you've got a 50/50 shot on breaking something or not. And you can't replace the little parts :/ So I may just give in and tape the hell out of my truck and spray them.

Re: CHROME STRIP ON H2 MIRROR REMOVAL?
Hit it with some spray bed liner and you won't have to worry about it again.

Re: CHROME STRIP ON H2 MIRROR REMOVAL?
Yeah I've got that stuff..was gonna paint the H2 white in the middle.

Re: CHROME STRIP ON H2 MIRROR REMOVAL?
I just painted both sides with bedliner..looks pretty good. Started doing the H2's white and was like "screw this" after I realized how much of a PITA it would be. haha

Re: CHROME STRIP ON H2 MIRROR REMOVAL?
They pop off ,they have clips and doublesided tape. I used 3M vinyl tape but next time I'll use Plasti-Dip like on my grill. Or you can use rustoluium bed liner.

Re: CHROME STRIP ON H2 MIRROR REMOVAL?
I just left them on there and masked the mess out of my door..turned out pretty well. Didn't wanna risk breaking the glass or the clips to the motor.
