I'm new to the Hummer forum since I am an currently an Escalade owner and have heard over at the cadillac forums that in 07 all of GM's Fullsize SUV's like Tahoe/Yukon/Denali/Escalade/H2 are getting redesigned. Is this true about the H2 also or just the other models? I am thinkin about in 1-2 years I might get an H2 or H1 I'm not sure yet, and this will help my desicion. Thankyou!

yes the H2 is getting gullwing style doors to reduce door dings.

DRTYFN 03-29-2005 03:56 AM

Yes, it is.
From what I've heard, the windshield will be raked back slightly and the front end will be a little different.

Don't forget the roof turret.

KenP 03-29-2005 04:05 AM

They're also going to have a factory bling option. Lots of chrome, big wheels and Flames.

And a hydrogen fuel cell engine.

This just in from Dan, who's at work and NOT browsing the web:

In another move aimed at shoring up its sagging balance sheet, GM has
canceled the mid-cycle restyling and re-engineering of the Hummer H2,
scheduled for the 2007 model year. The SUV was scheduled to get a longer
front end that would have housed a diesel engine. But there were higher
priorities

Klaus 03-29-2005 05:12 PM

I think Magnacharger sales are going to increase now that the diesel has been shelved.

Escaladeskatinon24s 03-30-2005 02:00 AM

So the H2 will be unchanged until? 08-09? I test drove one today and they are great, it feels like you can crush everything! I went for a ride on a test track and they are insane what they can do. I think I'm gonna trade my Escalade for one if they don't change in the next 2 years.

BLOWNZO6 04-01-2005 12:48 AM

The H2 is not part of the GMT900 platform you are referring too.

We are making parts for that platform, starting in January of '06.

H2BIG 04-01-2005 01:49 PM

There will be an H2 convertible in 07.

AnnuityPro 04-01-2005 11:16 PM

So when is the redesigned H2 coming out?

finbox 04-02-2005 12:11 AM

Yea.... what AnnuityPro, said.

MONDO 04-02-2005 05:06 PM

I would think with the crazy high diesel prices, there would be no point to make it.

Unfortunately, you are probably right. I would like the power through. I guess I just may end up with a blower on mine.

I don't have any parts quoted or awared on the H2 program, so I would not have any information on the update. Making parts on the new Tahoe, Suburban, Silverado and watch for some great parts on the Escalade we are producing.

I saw an H1 on the road today...I just realized how much I LOVE the windshield wipers...they are mounted ABOVE the windshield....how cool is that? Would be nice if the other Hummers had the same design...thats very much like nothing else on the road...

mstams 04-03-2005 10:47 PM

The wipers were pretty cool, but on my old '02 H1 wagon, they were very squeaky and the motors very loud.

I bet this is the engine that will be used in the H2 for '07 if they don't try to pack the Duramax in. Preliminary numbers show 400hp and 400lb-ft.

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">Numerous revisions, updates and improvements comprise the new Gen IV small-block V-8. "The new Gen IV engine is the best example yet of the continuous refinement in performance and efficiency that has been part of the small-block's legacy since day one," said Dan Nicholson, chief engineer of small-blocks.

A summary of new or changed components for the Gen IV architecture:

Larger 90-mm throttle body: The 6.0-liter displacement requires a higher volume of intake air; the Gen III throttle body is 75 mm. The new throttle body is mounted to a revised-design composite intake manifold with tuned runners to optimize airflow to individual cylinders.

New combustion-chamber design: Understanding of the flow characteristics in the highly tuned LS6 small-block were applied to the new Gen IV combustion chambers. The result is higher power output and increased volumetric efficiency.

Higher compression ratio: Hand-in-hand with Gen IV's new combustion chamber design is the ability to increase compression ratio to 10.9:1 compared to the 10:1 of the High-Output Vortec 6.0-liter Gen III V-8.

High-lift cam profile: Intake breathing is enhanced with a new, higher-lift camshaft. Also fitted are stronger valve springs to enable a higher peak-rpm range.

Flat-top pistons and stronger floating wrist pins: Floating piston wrist pins enhance durability, while engine testing and computer modeling demonstrated flat-top pistons generate the best power.

Compact, lighter water pump: All Gen IV V-8s are fitted with a more compact, more efficient water pump that reduces mass, conserves underhood space and reduces parasitic losses.

Deeper oil pan: The LS2 truck engine is designed with a deeper oil sump than the LS2 passenger-car engine. The new oil pan also incorporates a pass-through for a front driveshaft when used in four-wheel-drive applications.

Reduced-tension piston rings: Piston rings are a new, lower-tension design to reduce friction.

Redesigned crankcase vent: The crankcase vent is repositioned to the top of the block valley, where oil is less likely to enter during high engine speeds or high-g maneuvers.

New accessory-drive package: A new power steering pump and revised serpentine drive belt result in better space utilization.

Along with the increased power and torque when compared to the Gen III High Output Vortec 6.0-liter V-8, the new Gen IV Vortec 6000 6.0-liter continues GM Powertrain's ongoing commitment to reducing maintenance intervals and servicing costs.

Dexcool coolant and the platinum-tipped spark plugs have 100,000-mile change intervals. An Oil Life System function, built directly into the engine control module, calculates ideal oil-change intervals based on a variety of performance parameters.

Gen IV Vortec 6000 6.0-liter V-8 Fast Facts

* First truck application: 2005 Chevrolet SSR
