Restore the black on plastic on H2
I read a post on here yesterday somewhere about a product that restores the black on the plastic fenders that was highly recommended and it had a lot of good feedback. I can't find it now. Can anybody tell me what that product was. THanks!

Yep, good stuff.

Re: Restore the black on plastic on H2
Actually, there are couple other products that works really well on textured black plastic bumpers and parts.
1. Wizards Black Renew. Excellent cream type application that actually lasts. http://www.wizardsproducts.com/store...ion=0&page =2 2. Gatorback coating kit. Used on Avalanche and Escalade cladding and it is a permanent solution to faded textured black plastics. http://gatorbackcoatings.com/testimonials.htm |
Re: Restore the black on plastic on H2
Isn't the Gatorback stuff for grey though?

No its not. I have used that on my 03 avalanche which already came with black caldding, but few parts were dulled and faded. I brushed them on and it came out really nice. Permanent fix, not temporary. |

Re: Restore the black on plastic on H2
I still have 1/2 of a bottle of back to black by Mothers..... once I finish that I plan to buy the Griots stuff as it has a major nod of approval by all who have used it here. With the Back to Black I apply it every 3-4 washes as it does begin to fade off and get streaks in it.

Re: Restore the black on plastic on H2
I originally used the Mother's Back to Black but bought some of the Griot's last fall and it still looks good. Mother's is a good product for the black trim and Griot's is a great product.

Re: Restore the black on plastic on H2
Is the 4oz bottle enough to do an H2 front and rear bumpers and fender flares?
Or how far will that size bottle go. |
Re: Restore the black on plastic on H2
I used a little over 1/2 pf a 4oz bottle and gave every plastic part on the out side of the truck a first and second coat. Instead of the bottle applicator I poured the Griots into a small jar and used a small foam paint applicator...easier to get into tight places

Re: Restore the black on plastic on H2
what did you guys do to prep the bumpers?
just wash, alcohol wipe, ???? |
Re: Restore the black on plastic on H2
I used the Griot's rubber/plastic cleaner prior to application.
Worked like a charm. Did mine many months ago, still looks great after lots of pressure washes and sun exposure. |
Re: Restore the black on plastic on H2
a good cleaning with water and alcohol did it for me:fdance:

Re: Restore the black on plastic on H2
I did a denatured alchohol wipe down, the applied 2 coats with a foam brush like Olfart reccommended. Goes on very easy, its very thin.
There is along thread here some where with pics that I included. |
Re: Restore the black on plastic on H2
+1 on the Griots...it's been about a year on my '03 as well...love the stuff!

Why did you guys go as far as using alchohol? I washed my truck and trim really well, waited for it to be totally dry then applied. I did get some spotting here and there on my front bumper though :raar: Just out of curiousity, has anyone used other Griots products? The price of everything is comparable to brands like Armor All and probably better quality, I've been eyeing up their leather products for my cracked drivers seat. edit; for what it's worth, I've done both bumpers and all the trim twice and probably have around half the bottle left. |
Re: Restore the black on plastic on H2
I liked the way these wipes work better than the Griots, my plastic was really bad and just one treatment makes it look brand new, it has been holding up for weeks and a second treatment has them shining better than ever! Give it a try and you won't go back to any other product. and there is no reason to prep the bumpers at all because this stuff removes all the oxidation -and I do the whole truck with one wipe. http://shop.armordillots1.com/ |
