Air Conditioning Question

Yes I have used the search button.
Yes, it is true, I don't know **** about air conditioning.

I have a 2006 H2 with 34,000 miles and I am the original owner. Although I have limited mileage, they have been hard miles, nearly all of them towing a boat in high heat for long distances.

I have used my A/C constantly in 100+ degee heat on a weekly basis during the summer. It is clear that the A/C has become less cold over the last year and is struggling to bring the temperature down to a comfortable level.

It has been a while since I was cracking open engine blocks, but hasn't A/C technology advanced that this could be a more serious problem than just doing a "recharge" of the system? I thought the freon days were over.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I have had the flash done a few years ago because the passenger side only pumped hot air no matter what I set the temperature at. Is another flash an option?

Re: Air Conditioning Question

Well, you are right that they are not putting freon in new vehicles, but they still recharge them. I would find a shop that does AC stuff and go in for a recharge. They will check for leaks at the same time, and then recharge the system and you should be good for several more years.

Re: Air Conditioning Question

I had my AC recharged on my 62,000 mile '06 this July at a Goodyear Tire Center while I was out of state. They tried to sell me a new condenser and separator, but I passed on that. So far it's doing fine and ice cold again!

Re: Air Conditioning Question

Just recently, my 08 seemed to blow cold...and then not so cold air, - took it in the dealer, they diagnosed that the line had a leak. they replaced it. then, my left side wasn't as cold as the right side. they determined then...that it was a bad actuator. they replaced that...and now it is fine.

ac systems are so complicated.

Re: Air Conditioning Question

My AC was not as cold as it once was so 2 weeks ago I went to NAPA autoparts and bought the DIY recharge unit and after using it my AC got worse! :crying:
So I brought it to a Local Wrench who evacuated the system and recharged to proper poundage. Everything is Ice Cold again! :D
He said I most likely overcharged the system :raar: and that can make it not work just as easy as a undercharged system.

Re: Air Conditioning Question

Didn't your refill kit included a PSI gauge so you could fill it to the proper pressure?

Yup! It had a guage built in to it so according to me it was correct. I guess the guage was a POS!

Yep, let a pro do the recharge and don't let them put in any of the stop-leak crap some people are trying to push now.
