Damaged Leather

Has anyone ever had GM/Hummer redo the crappy leather? One of my seats is clearly defective and they are doing to fix it under warranty.

The others aren't bad, but the service manager said they do such a good job that I would notice a huge difference.

My concern is how durable it is. I don't want to have it all done if it's going to turn out looking like the same old GM leather a year later.

Anyone?

In a nutshell, GM leather sucks. I recommend using a cleaner and conditioner on it every other week. I use Adams car care products and its the best I've found, and I'd recommend it. Make sure to dilute the cleaner 50/50 with water, it tends to pull some dye out. I've also got some Swissvax stuff that I haven't tried yet.

My driver's seat on the lower part by the door is starting to wear thin. I've been using Connolly Leather Care on it monthly, but I wear jeans a lot and that's tough on leather. I agree that it could be thicker leather, but my brother's Escalade is doing the exact same thing. Never have given much thought to taking it in and having it replaced - how many have done that?

I should have been more clear. They don't replace the leather they re-dye it.

This might be location specific since the leather Guy is only there on Mondays. The service manager swears by it. Its around 200-250 dollars for all the seats.

I use nothing but lexol to condition the leather and the same to clean it. However I only clean the leather twice a year.

When I went looking for my second H2, I noticed all the rear seats had been dyed.

I didn't have an issue with that since I'm in the bodyshop business but they were all dyed with a spraybomb in gloss black :notallthere:

They looked cheap and crappy. I passed on several H2's because I wanted nice leather.

And then I found mine. I was so happy with the truck, I didn't notice that the seats had all been redone. :o

Anyway, I used laquer thinner and stripped down the dye on all the seats. I then had a company we used at the shop come and dye all the seats. They are PERFECT. You can't tell they've been dyed, they have the sheen and color they should have. They look great.

In fact, they look so great I never installed the brand new in a box Katskinz black perforated covers I have at the shop.

IMHO good idea if your not so concerned about quality and like to save $. If it were me, my concern would not be so much on color but cracking from the quality of leather (x2 SSG H). I would think it might be hard to say when the company offers over 1000 patterns and 100 color selections for replacement. 2 cts.

Dealer is going to replace the leather on the defective seat and I'm going to have the leather Guy do the rest. He contracts with the Hummer/caddy dealer so I'm sure its quality work.
