Have i got a collapsed brake pipe??

I've noticed sometimes, that while driving in town traffic for a while the vehicle starts to drag as i am driving.Once i've stopped i've noticed a burning smell. On checking the hubs,my right rear is almost impossible to touch. Its that hot.

I've had the H2 on a ramp when things have cooled down, and the rear right free wheels as normal. Could it be a collapsed rear brake hose??. In effect acting as a shut of valve when the fluid neads to return??.

Hi rubber flex hoses can collapsed on the inside, but it will look normal on the outside. I have seen it happen a few times. After a test drive, block the front wheels lift the truck up with it running in neutral and have a helper push the brake while you try to turn the wheel then get them to release the brake it should turn as soon as they release the brake pedal. It could also be that caliper starting to seize after driving for awhile. Hope this helps.

Hi did the hose have a problem inside?

We couldn't really tell. Just to be on the safe side, and to prevent from ordering again,we decided to order the hoses plus the caliper. We jacked the back up. And turned the wheel by hand. After applying the brake a few times, the wheel started to bind. Leaving it for a few seconds and the wheel started to free off.

Hi ok, sounds like it's the line. Let me know after the parts are installed.

Well. Fitted new hoses and a caliper to the right rear yesterday morning. The old caliper was pretty crudy. We bled the brakes on that side. Took it for a test drive. It really hustles along now, which proves that caliper had been sticking for some time. The only problem now is,the brake pedal is pushing near enough to the floor. Any ideas?

Hi great that the brakes are not hanging up anymore. It sounds like it still has air in the system. The master cyclinder didn't go empty when you were bleeding it did it?

Re: Have i got a collapsed brake pipe??

No. We only bled the right rear. The master cylinder only took a fraction of fluid to refil.

Hi if you push the pedal 2 or 3 times does the pedal come up?

Re: Have i got a collapsed brake pipe??

Yeah, the pedal comes back up. But its as soft as **** when you push it down. Its only when u push it right down, that it begins to bite.

Hi it sounds like their is air still in it. If the brake pedal was good before you changed the caliper and flex hose and now its crap. It must still have air some where in the system.
