Removing stock chrome fuel door?
 

How can I remove the stock chrome fuel door? It started to rust and peel a little bit and I am getting rid of the chrome on my truck anyways, but can't figure out how to get it off. Thanks for any help!

Remove the allen screws around the outside ring, comes right off.

you might have to remove the 3 screws holding the black plastic cover to the fuel neck if you need to remove the whole peice when the outer screws break off removing them like mine did.

Thanks for the replies. I thought the allen head screws may have been holding it on, but one of the heads on the screws rusted and fell off, so I thought those may have just been for looks. I tried to unscrew the others just to check, but I didn't want to try too hard thinking I would just break them off as well.

One other question. If I take the fuel door off, will it look like the other hummers with no fuel door or will there be holes there where the door originally was? I'm wanting to get rid of the chrome look and just go without a door, but I want to make sure it will still look factory before I go taking off the chrome door. Thanks again.

My fuel door is held to the plastic fuel cap liner by allen screws and nuts, so it must be removed in one piece to get the door off.
- open the fuel door
- removed the gas cap
- removed the 3 small hex screws that surround the fuel fill
- grab the fuel door/liner assembly and twist (this sort of has a quarter turn twist lock into the body panel
- pull outward (after the twist) to remove the entire assembly

To answer your question, no. If you removed the fuel door you will have a liner and no trim to fill the body gap. The style of fuel fill your thinking of is actually a part on it's own. A black liner/bezel replacement without a fuel door. You should be able to pick up one of these off ebay, although I've never looked.

Thanks for the help. I bought an OEM pocket and took the door off last night. Any suggest on how to get the new pocket to turn and lock into place? There is nowhere to grab that thing and for the life of me I cannot get that sucker to turn more than and 1/4" or so.

I ran into that same problem today. The bottom three bolts on my chrome lid popped right off because they were corroded. Will unscrewing the black cover around the fuel neck help me get to them to somehow get them out? This sucks because I got a black defenderworx lid that I wanted to change out real quick and sure enough the bottom bolts were history. Was it hard removing the ones that broke off?
