On the rim of frustration...the wheel search.

I've been sitting here for weeks now waiting on my new wheels to arrive only to find out that ATX (American Racing) has discontinued the Mojave (at least in our bolt pattern). Nobody's got them and I've called dozen's of places...25 to be exact.

SO...now I've got a stack of 18" BFG MTs in my garage and no rims to mount them on (since my stock rims are 17"). Thus I've spent the better part of this weekend (and today) searching for a similar rim, all to no avail.

Here's the look I want:

I've seen that KMC has a similar style (Enduro), but I'm not AS big a fan of those as the Mojaves.

Any thoughts? I'd even run steel spare rims if I could find them in 18".

I don't get the attraction to those rims... I personally think the stock rims are some of the best looking rims out there.

But that's just me..

I would agree...the stock rims are nice. They have a nice HD look, but I'm looking to eliminate the chrome. I thought about powder coating the stockers, but:
  • It would be a hassled (removing the tires, transporting the rims, sandblasting the rims, transporting again, remounting the tires, etc.)
  • I'm not really a big fan of how they look in black
  • I run my wheels open hub (not a fan of hub caps either) and I just can't get past how the stockers 'look' like their suppose to have a cap

After an exhaustive search of every wheel vendor I could find, I must admit defeat. The ATX Mojaves (18") are gone...and the KMC Enduros, which were going to be my fallback have a very low load rating; so I nixed them too.

I never thought I'd say this, but I sit here now awaiting my Rockstars.

...the good thing is, while the Rockstars can be seen on many trucks in this forum, I have yet to see ANY truck rocking them in my area. So while I may be seen as a 'follower' on Elcova, I will be seen as a 'trend setter' in my neck of the woods. LOL!

Guru, I cant take credit for these, but Jonny(Bimmer9938) suggested these to me and I loved them. would have gone with them but it was going to be a 2 and a half month wait for them. they look very rugged and have a very small hub.

On another note rock those rockstars without the hubs... thats what i did and no one realized they were rockstars. It was almost comical. and they look much more rugged without the caps

Those center caps drive me nuts they way they stick out...I'm definitely going capless.

I did find an interesting thread by hdmlnium where he modified the caps to pull closer to the rim...looked much better, but I agree, they look more rugged without the caps altogether.
