37x12.5x17 on stock rims
I know this has been asked, but the answers always left some doubt as to the setup so I'd like to get this clarified before I buy.
I have a 2003 H2 with original rims. I'd like to install 37x12.5x17 BFG MT's. Because I have to special order these tires in (PRE-paid), and then bring my rims in separately because no one is willing to install them on my truck due to perceived liability, I'd really like to make sure that I'm making an informed purchase. I have the original 17" rims and no lift kit, etc... Will 37's fit on my truck? I've read some posts that stated some extra 'work' was required to get larger tires to fit. Any input would be greatly appriciated. My biggest fear would be to get these tires in and then discover that they don't fit. My current plan was to purchase 1 tire and install it on my spare rim to test for fit. Worst case is that I would be stuck with only 1 tire if it didn't fit. Kelly Kelly |
Re: 37x12.5x17 on stock rims
37's should fit just fine if you crank the keys a bit.

Thanks for the quick response!
Can you describe what 'crank the keys' means? Kelly |
Re: 37x12.5x17 on stock rims
Doing some research now... Seems fairly simple to adjust the torsion bars.

Re: 37x12.5x17 on stock rims
Stock keys adjust about an extra 0.5" to 1", depending on how they were set up from the factory. You could always get aftermarket keys if you want to go a bit higher. To adjust the keys, unload the front suspension and turn the bolts holding the keys up (about in the center of the car, where the torsion bars end). 37's should clear with minor rubbing on the frame and a-arms, but just very minor rubbing at full steering lock. Shouldn't cause much problems. There are also spacers available for the rear springs if you want to raise the back of the Hummer. If you want to mount the tires, bring them to a truck shop. That's where I had mine installed. They mainly do tires for big semi-trailers and other heavy machinery. They have big balancing machines and should be able to properly balance the tires. Good luck with your tires. Cheers, Indy.

Thanks. I feel much more confidant now after doing more research!
I'll place the order next week and then post the results. Kelly |
Re: 37x12.5x17 on stock rims
You will not need to crank the keys with those specific tires. They will fit just fine. If you go with a wider tire then you will need to crank them.
Get Dyna Beads Search for them on google. put those in the tires and you will never have to balance the tires. |

Re: 37x12.5x17 on stock rims
Strange cause I have Goodyear MTR (Kevlar) 37x12.5x17 WITH aftermarker cranked keys (2" lift in front) and I still rub the swaybar at steering wheel lock. My bars are pretty shiny from getting rubbed by these big rubber erasers...
Love the look and performance though, so worth the trouble  |

Re: 37x12.5x17 on stock rims
Looking for my third set of 37 for my truck. The only thing I had to do to get these to work was install them. NOTHING is required. No rubbing no nothing. Never tweaked the torsion bars. At least on my '04 that's been offroaded all over the country including the infamous Rubicon.

Re: 37x12.5x17 on stock rims
Does anyone have any pictures of these tires mounted on the stock rims while mounted on the truck?

Re: 37x12.5x17 on stock rims
very informative thread. I'm still relatively new to the hummer world and have researched quite a bit but just assumed 35's were stock. I can't believe how much better the 37's make the truck look in the pics above-fills the gap!
My stockers rub a tiny bit on the sway bar but its nothing major-I've read that can happen. My first set of tires for this thing will definitely be 37's-as long as I can still fit the thing in the garage lol. Thanks again for the info everyone!:clapping: |
