Best 37" tire?

I'm looking to dump my 35" Nitto Trail Grapplers for some larger tires. I'd like to get away from the Nittos because it is a very soft tread and every time i drive it, I smell the rubber. I dont think their gonna last long. I have 9,000 miles on them now. So....who makes the best 37x12.5R17 tire? Something aggressive, yet streetable. I really liked the stock BFG T/A KO tires that came on the truck. I got over 40K out of them, and could have gotten more but sold them for the Nittos. I have seen alot of good things said about the Cooper SSt and their pretty reasonably priced. I'd like to stay around 1200-1500 for the set. So give me some good ideas for my next set of tires.

If you want an M/T tire, the Toyo Open Country M/T's are about the best buy on the market. Really good looking, aggressive tire that is very streetable. AND it will last a long time. I have 35's right now and I think I'm around 12,000 miles with them..TONS of tread left. I couldn't be more pleased with them. If I ever get another set, it will more than likely be them.

i have 37 inch BFG KM2 M/T tires

bought them with about 4k miles on them, and have put over 30k miles on them so far and still over half tread life left on them.

they are great on the road, just a little noise from them.
in a MN winter, they do suck. they are great on fresh snow tho.

when i do need new tires, i would prolly buy the KM2s again, or switch over to the Toyo ones.
the trail grapplers arent bad looking tho, but not really aggressive looking

those only come in a 37x13.5x17....will those fit the stock wheels? i was looking for 12.5 wide.

i have the trail grapplers now. their a great tire all around. im just curious about the life of them being as sticky as they are. plus as large and deep as the tire patches are, they have horrbile response when turning at any speedscompared to the BFG TA KO's.

Re: Best 37" tire?

Heres my options for tires in a 37x12.50R17. cheapest to most expensive....
Yokohama Geolander M/T $277
BF Goodrich TA KO $291
Cooper STT $298 + $75 rebate
Falken Wild Peak A/T $307
Hankook Dyna Pro MT $311
Nitto Trail Grappler MT $313
BF Goodrich MT KM2 $315
Goodyear Wrangler MT/R $347

In a 37x13/5R17....as long as i can run a 13.5 wide.....heres my options
Toyo Open Country MT $311
Interco SS-M16 $336
Dick Cepek FCII $408

if i cant run a 13.5 wide im kinda thinking the Toyo Open country......if i cant, the tire im liking the best in the 12.50 is the Cooper discoverer or possibly sticking with the Nitto Trail Grappler.
any thoughts?

Re: Best 37" tire?

after reviewing all these tires. the cooper actually has the most tread depthat 23/32 and is the tallest at 36.9" inflated. the next best is the Nitto at 21/32 tread and 36.85" inflated. just so happens those 2 are some of the cheapest also.

Re: Best 37" tire?

are you running 38's on the stock 17? do they make 38's for a 17? will they fit without rubbing?

Re: Best 37" tire?

The BFG KM2 38's are 14.5 wide and are spec'd to fit a 10" - 12" rim. Got to rub on the H2! Bet he has very shinny sway bars! Don't lower the pressure too much off road or you will likely loose that tire.

I run the KM2 37's and they will rub the sway bar on hard turns. But, I love the tire. Just get the right size.

How is the street noise with these tires? I like them but worried about how loud the humming might be.

Re: Best 37" tire?

well, after looking around and getting prices, i found a place not to far from me(Jordan Tire) that can get me the cooper discoverer stt for a great deal installed. and i get a $75 rebate from cooper if purchased before the end of the month i think. so i may go with the 37x12.5x17 coopers.

Re: Best 37" tire?

BFG MT KM2s...

I ran these at 37x12.5x17 on the stock rims for 2 years and 30,000 miles. Rubbed slightly at full lock had about 1/3 tread left when I swapped them out...getting ready for winter.

I'm now running them at 37x12.5x18 on XD rims. No rub at all 'cause of the different backspacing on the rim.

Great tire. Only measures 35.5" inflated, though. Slightly more noise then the BFG ATs. IMO they grip better than the ATs in just about every condition I've encountered...both seem to be about the same on ice.

Re: Best 37" tire?

your 37's measure 35.5" inflated? the manufacturer specs say it should measure 36.8 inflated. you must bea talking with the weight of the vehicle on them.

That is correct...I'll measure my spare and see what that comes up.
