New Winch for my H2
I bought a new winch. The winch has a 6 hp motor, is rated @ 12,000 lbs and draws 320 amps max. I am trying to decide which route to take so I can move the winch receiver mount to the rear if the need arises:
A) Run huge a** cables from the main battery to the rear receiver? B) Buy a new lead/gel battery and mount it in driver's side wheel well storage compartment? This would require a small 12VDC to 12VDC battery/float charger. It seems the most common solution is A. Both solutions cost about the same. If any of my H2 brothers have gone through this same situation please feel free to chime in. Thanks. |
Re: New Winch for my H2
I have the Warn 9.5ti multi mount and I can place it at either the front or the rear recievers. I ran the warn quick disconnect at both recievers. You will need two (+ & -) long cables for the rear. It similiar to the one you've suggested on solution A.

Harbor Freight has dumped their old line of winches (which received so-so reviews) for a different supplier that uses a series wound motor and three-stage planetary gears. They market them under the name, "Badlands." They look identical to another brand whose name I cannot remember at the moment. They had a coupon for $300 in September.
