03 H2 Hood replacement

My 03 H2 Hood is in need of replacement. The black paint is spider-webbing and the hood itself has a stress crack where one of the supports hits it.

Option 1 - I can have it repaired and painted for about $1100 at a local shop that does great work but my truck will be in the shop for about a week.

Option 2 - I can get a pre-painted carbon fiber hood for about a $1000 and have it put on in a matter of hours.

Does anyone have any experience with these carbon fiber hoods? What are pros and cons?

Thanks!

My nephew put one (carbon fiber hood) on his Civic. I was less than impressed with the quality...but he more than likely went cheap on his.

My initial thought is, you'd definitely lose some LBs; but I'd think it'd be less resistant to punishment...

...so, you'll prolly get an extra 0.1 MPG, be able to lift your hood with one hand, but will more than likely eventually crack it if you start smacking it with thick brush and branches.

It's prolly not a bad idea if your truck's a pavement pounder though...

Thanks for the reply, with 180,000 miles on her my 03 is pretty much a pavement pounder at this point.

How's it running at 180,000? I'm hoping to get as many miles as possible out of this truck (currently at 104).

My grandfather always said, "change the oil every 3,000 and a truck will run forever." I plan to test that nugget of wisdom.

Running well, had the transmission go out and rebuilt about 3000 miles ago - interior plastic panels are cracking which sucks... exterior still looks great though (except the hood) and I haven't seen another vehicle I'd rather have. If I'd bought an 03 Denali or Tahoe it would look super dated by now! Always changed the oil at every 3000 , great advice.
