Help: change oil thread
 

I am sure there is already a thread about how to change oil somewhere but can somebody kindly direct me to it.

I usually have the dealer do it but I am planning to start doing it myself.
also any concensus in this group best to use like synthetic or best brand etc...
I plan to drive this beast as long as I can and try to replace oil every 3k miles.:D

I use full synthetic and a Wix oil filter. If you aren't extending your drain interval past what the DIC says you can save money over the really expensive synthetics.

Make sure you have a filter wrench...they are really cheap and sometimes the filters are a pain to get off. Otherwise it is very straight foreward. Just unscrew the oil cap on the engine, then undo the bolt on the oil pan. Let it drain for a bit till it drips no more. But the bolt back in. Change the filter. Then refill to the correct level. Have fun...it might be a bit messy, but it feels good to do something yourself on the Hummer. :excited: And normal oil as stated in the manual will work just fine.

thanks guys for the help. have not done any oil change yet on any of my vehicles but will start with my h2sut.

Indy _ agree that it will surely feel good. I do air filters and cabin filters etc... tbut hose are nothing.

ps: how much oil though?:D

Mine takes a hair less than 6 qts with the filter. I can't over emphasize what has been said about the filter to tighten it well. With the skid plate you might not get all the torque you want on it with your hand, so I always use a filter wrench too. I've always used Mobil 1 synthetic in my engine and changed every 4000 miles which is normally @ 30% oil life left on my dash display.

Might want to grease tie rods, idler arm, piman arm and ball joints too. Front end parts get expensive

One additional comment: Fill the new filter with oil just prior to installation and this will reduce the dry start up associated with oil changes.
