Remote Start Problems?

Has anyone's remote start gone out? I had an issue a couple days ago involving my programmer and battery, and now my remote start wont start the car. It recognizes it, but doesn't make the move to turn the engine over when it should. Any clues?

Re: Remote Start Problems?

If it is a GM keyfob autostart, you are probably going to have to go back to a dealerhsip and have them reprogram it for you.

I'm using a Viper, so not sure if I can help. I can tell you that it could either be the button sensor in the keyfob wore out, or something happened to deprogram the signal for autostart. If they reprogram it at the dealership and it doesn't work, then you know it is the button on the fob and you will probably have to replace that cheap piece of S**t. On top of that, they will rape you violently without protection for that FOB, so stretch out good before that visit just in case. :violin:

Well great..that sounds comforting. And yes it's the fob start.

Have you tried to reprogram the FOB via the DIC? I had to reprogram 2 FOBs when i bought my H2 - came with only 1 set. I bought the FOBs on ebay for about $30 each and avoided a trip to the dealer.

how do you manually program the remote?

I have 1 key fob remote, and an extra one...which isn't programmed.

Re: Remote Start Problems?

FYI - you'll have to reprogram both remotes at the same time.

(from the 2008 owner's manual)
1. Press the vehicle information button (second one on the DIC) until
PRESS V (check mark) TO RELEARN REMOTE KEY displays.
2. Press the set/reset button until REMOTE KEY
LEARNING ACTIVE is displayed.
3. Press and hold the lock and unlock buttons
on the first transmitter at the same time for
about 15 seconds.
On vehicles with memory recall seats, the
first transmitter learned will match driver 1
and the second will match driver 2.
A chime will sound indicating that the
transmitter is matched.
4. To match additional transmitters at this time,
repeat Step 3.
Each vehicle can have a maximum of
eight transmitters matched to it.
5. To exit the programming mode, you must
cycle the key to LOCK/OFF.

Hope this helps.

Good luck and will do on the pics. I'm out of town so it'll have to wait until I get back. I did review your machine on some other threads - very nice, awesome professional pics!

If you have any trouble codes set in the ecm it will disable the remote start function, lights will flash but will not start. Scan for codes, clear them and try again

That was it! I've had a PO449 code the past few days, this morning I started the truck and the check engine light never came on. Idk why, it's been on for awhile now. But I just went outside and used my key fob and it started right up. It's weird :/
