knocking noise while drive

Hi guys

Ive notice a knocking noise , it comes from the floor underneath while drive , I was reading that may be the mounts for the exhaust are broken or a problem with the shaft .
It is intermittent , most common while passing around the 45-50 mpg range

I will check the exhaust
Please any advise how to check if there is a issue with the shaft before taking it to the dealer

Any other thing to check ?

Thank you all

Re: knocking noise while drive

Does it come about during High RPM?

Or over 50 mph it's constant?

I have a rattle in my passenger floorboard that sometimes sounds always above 4500 RPM.

If nothing else you can put the truck into neutral with the park brake engaged and try to shake the shafts.

In which direction does it sounds like it's coming from?
And your sure it's a knocking and not a clicking?

It is a knocking noise like bump, bump, bump ... as if something is knocking on the floor
it is intermittent around 45-50 mph but not always does it ...

I dont think it is related with stopping or accelerating , either with turning ...
Also I can feel the bumping in my foot ... The sequencing is around 3-4 bumps per second

I will try to do a shake test to the shaft

Thanks

I had the same issue and mine was the driver's side wheel hub...problem solved and haven't heard a peep since February.

How in the heck can a body mount cause an intermittent knock? I would get under there and shake the crap out of everything possible. If you find something loose that's most likely the culprit. Good luck

Yes, knocking, thumping, oil canning, bumping in the floorboard - there's lots of threads on this and bad or deteriorating body mounts if you search 2004 2005 technical. Search is your friend here.

I only felt it on the driver's side. Never had a passenger say they could feel it too. I only noticed it at speeds over 50. The easiest way to tell is to get that front end of the ground and shake that tire from side to side. If you get that wiggle wiggle wiggle then that's probably your problem. Apparently our H2' s are prone to hubs failing. Let us know if this happens to be your problem. I bought a brand new one from R A for less than $100.

Well . I checked all the mounts , the Skid plate , the exhaust and more underneath parts but nothing is loose .
Im checking the Hubs today .
In the positive side ... I took it to a small offroad road yesterday and it didn't gets any worse .

HI every1

Ok I checked the two front wheel hubs ... they looks fine ... however while the driver side is steady with very little play ( not the Hub but the whole front end ) ..
The passenger side has some play , again not on the hub in fact when moving sound kind of the same bump noise I mentioned before
Is that play normal , any specific part to check .

Thank you all

Just updating ... After trying in different mechanic shops to replace the diff mounts I decide to re-balance and rotate the tires to give a shot and guess what ..

The bumping/knocking noise is gone

OG I just save $900 Life is good :jump:

So basically all you did was rotate and balance out the tires and the bump was gone???

If so way to go.
I know that when I diagnose patients, I always make sure to think "horses" first, not "zebras"... but given I would have never guess based on the info you gave it was that easy of a fix.
Good job....

PS even better for saving 900 bucks from the stealership

"horses" first, not "zebras" LOL

Well the real hero was the dealer guy , he told me to go and rotate the tires before doing anything else ,,, it took me a week to get the rotation cause I was sure it wouldn't do any good ... Fortunately I was so wrong

Just doing a quick update to the problem reported before...

NOise came back after rotating the wheels ....

Shocks replaced and problem fixed ... 2 months later after 1000 miles and towing trailers I can assure the problem was fixed

Also better ride with the new shocks ( bilstein)

Thank you every1
