OK…stupid question…
In what orientation do you mount rear shocks? I have the new Bilsteins all ready to go. I called them and they said you should be able to read the label. That sounds good but NOT very definitive. I figure they should go boot/rod up. This would make label read correctly as well. The reason I ask is that some of the remote reservoir models have rod down. These are not that model but I just want to make sure… Thanks |

Rod with boot up and the shock body down. Easy one! BIG-C

My rear King reservoirs are body up, shaft pointing down---it is the only way they will fit and they work great bec. they were designed to function that way.
You need to call your manufacturer and ask again. Shaft pointing up or shaft pointing down---forget about how the shock reads. |
Circuitguy is correct... My Bilsteins are installed the same way.

If the part number is BE5-6647-H5 then you have the 5100 series.
The orientation should be rod up and body down. |
when installing shocks, you must take into consideration that when the heat builds up, the fluid inside will become frothy. If you have the shocks mounted with the rod facing up, all this foamy fluid is EXACTLY where the piston is at rest, and the initial stroke of the shock will be poor as it passes through this fluid. WHat model bilstein do you have,,is it gas charged etc...This is why when you mount fluid shocks, they must go body up...look into it for a smooth and predictable ride
