truck trend has LR3 #1 and H3 #2. Have any of you seen or taken the LR3 off road? How do you guys think the H3 measures up to the LR3? A friend of mine is going to buy the LR3, and the debates have already started. On paper, the LR3 sounds amazing. Here are some of the specs on the LR3: Ground clearance (off road mode): 9.5 in Angle of approach: 32.2-37.2 Angle of departure: 24.9-29.6 ramp breakover angle: 22.8-27.9 ascent/descent: 45/45 degrees side slope: 35 degrees continuous wading depth: 27.6 in 18"-19" rims |

For that kind of price they should compare it to the H2.

The only reason they gave it the nod for first place is because it just flat has more luxury features. They put no bearing on cost, and for the cost, lets face it, the LR3 does have more needless gizmos and nice to have technology. I'd rather road in a h3 any day of the week. I think short term off roading they are even... long term it is my opinion the three is more durable, can absorb more punishment, and will last longer. There just isn't near as many pieces that can break. But only time will tell I guess.

Thats the same review I saw somewhere about 6 months ago? Old news! And If it was done by another magazine or columnist then these guys are hacks. Or theyre just printing more Land Rover Proproganda all over again. |
Here's an old thread on the subject.

20k More? And noted to have problems with the electronics, per people I have talked to.
As starsnbars stated, the LR3 should be compared to the H2, not the H3. If compared to the H3, they should have compared it to the Wrangler too. |
We have had an LR3 and let me tell you, that car is a piece of ****. Within 5k miles it was dead in the driveway, dealer couldn't figure it out for almost a month. Literally by the time 10k miles came up, the car had been in the dealer for this or other a total of 9 times. Needless to say, this car is no longer with us.
As for the off road capabilities - no idea, I just wanted it to run on road, last thing I wanted is to be a 20 inch deep mud pit with it. |
Actually I am very impressed the H3 took second place. But I guess that's because I was more taken by the look of it than what it could do when I bought it. That article is just more icing on the cake; good looks and impressive off-road abilities too at a much lower price; obviously the smart choice.
By the way I noticed they have a yellow H3 showing up more than a few times in the movie "The Gospel", now on DVD. Halleluyah brothers and sisters! |

This seems to happen to nearly every model from them. I like what the LR3 tries to do, but I would never get one just because of the inevitable maintenance problems that comes along with the rig. |
Had a Disco II, which I feel is a lot better than the new LR3, and I'd pick the H3 over the LR3 off road any day of the week. The H3 is a lot more stable, less roll, more predictable, and more reliable IMO...just to name a few reasons on my list.

Just have your friend follow you, if he can. That should tell you all you need to know.
BTW, this is a really old article. ![]() |

I'm new here so please be kind
![]() That being said the wife wants a H-3 and so do I so I joined up to listen and learn. great forum and great rig can't wait till we get ours |
That LR3 had an 8cyl.
The H3 may have come out on top if they had compared it to the 6cyl LR3. I think if your main concern is buying a good daily driver you may want to consider the LR3 It has a lot of creature comforts, but for off roading of any kind I think you would be happier with the H3. |
welcome five0 give us a chance and we will lure you over to the dark side

The LR3 will be in the shop so much, it will give new meaning to the term "OFF ROAD"
