I am a Senior in Mechanical Engineering at Virginia Tech and am conducting a survey for a new breed of Hummer that GM is currently considering. This new Hummer will be larger than an ATV, but small then a Jeep. Please answer the following questions below, it would help GM and our design team greatly. Thanks
1.What do you like and dislike about your current Hummer? 2.What types of things could you do with a cheaper more capable Hummer? 3. How much would you pay *this new Hummer will cost around 10,000-25,000. 4. Do you use your Hummer to the fullest capabilities, if so how often? 5. What would you expect to see from this Hummer/ATV new breed coming? Thank you for your time, we really appreciate it. Virginia Tech Hummer 0.5 Design Team |

If you remotely had any credibility, you would at least not have misspelled "than" and "breed" incorrectly TWICE each. Sheesh! ![]() |

I think GM's been beat out - what you're looking for is commonly known as the Honda Element.

While we are on this level of discussion:
Why is it that people would like to reinvent the wheel? Tooling costs for a new vehicle is in the hundreds of millions of dollars. Even when parts bins are shared (like using an existing engine/tranny/transfer case combination), there are still costs involved that would require a minimum run of 40k vehicles per year for 3-4 years. Secondly, I've rarely seen private sector industry using colleges to do their research. They pay millions of dollars to companies to do this type of entry level information gathering. Third, I do find your spelling rather alarming for a ME. I know spell check is the norm nowadays, but as an engineer myself, I'm really worried about the type of engineers that are coming out of school. |

'Bread' - 'Breed' WTF it does look like a loaf of bread I guess. Your new design should primarily keep cadence with the personality of the current H1 and H2 owner: 1. Generally self centered 2. Opinionated 3. Mistaken to be rude (at times) 4. Eats red meat 5. Voted for the right President 6. And does not think the word "gay" is ambiguous ![]() |
First Hummer shoes, then Hummer cologne, now Hummer bread? Is it low-carb?
Wow, I know for a fact that I would have got my ass chewed by my ME teachers back in school if I spelled "breed" (or any other basic word) wrong. I agree with Beast, scary if this is an example of the current grads. I for one would like to see a large back seat, a condom dispenser, electrochromic windows, and a dim red interior light. ![]() |
I would like something that is 100% off-road capable, gets 300 mpg, 0-60 in 3 secs with unlimited top speed, no chance of a rollover, with a rocket launcher! Whoo hoo!

Wow you guys are almost as bad as the Audi guys. By the way, sorry I can't spell, didn't really pay attention to it. But we just visited GM, saw the new hummers coming out in the next couple years, and they want us to come up with a concept similar to the Polaris 4x4, like one of you mentioned. Your guys input would really help out. Thanks again...

Some more info would be of help:
Is it an open-air vehicle or closed? Single operator or can it carry passengers? If so, in what config? (F&R, side-by-side?) Are you trying to reinvent one of these?: ![]() |
That is the price range that GM is giving us. Hoping that you guys could narrow this range down for us. They basically just want us to come up with some ideas for a cheaper, more fuel efficient hummer type vehicle. So it's just in the workings, but we know that it's going to be AWD, 2 passenger (side by side), highway capable, between the size of an ATV and jeep, kind of like a Suzuki samurai on steroids, and fuel efficient. I was just hoping some of you guys could give us some more ideas of what this vehicle should have.
