I can feel a vibe through the steering wheel and also feel it in the floor board. It is when cruising. When turning or under strain, it goes away. I've taken a quick look at the ujoints in the front driveshaft and have looked at the front drive axle shafts , everything seems fairly tight. Is there any common problem out there like wheel bearing failure or carrier bearings in front diff. Cant seem to pin point where the vibration is coming from , but its getting pretty bad. Thanks , Doug

Could be steel belt in tire out of place. Lift vehical spin wheel looking straight on at it. Just a thought.

Doug,

Do you have any mud caked in the inside of the wheels? It could be simple like that - causing wheel vibe.

Do you have a bent wheel?

You probably already checked all this - but I thought I would toss it out.

I have pretty new tires on front prolly about 10,000 miles on them. I will check for mud caked in wheel. But it sounds and feels a little metallic. . Doug

If is it not that - check the wheel bearings - it does sound like it might be that - but how many miles do you have?

Dug 02-26-2006 02:15 AM

88K ? +/-

VTSTOMPER 02-26-2006 02:18 AM

hmmm...could be. Probably a tech would know more, but it might be a wheel bearing.

Thanks, i'm going to tear into it a little tommorrow. Its bugging me i cant find the problem.

Just saw a used wheel bearing assy . on ebay for $85. Guess its prolly not going to be to expensive for a new one. Find out monday.

Dug 02-26-2006 06:23 PM

Damn , $319. at Napa. http://www.napaonline.com/masterpages/NOLMaster.aspx?

Dug 02-26-2006 09:32 PM

yes Phil , the front bearing is a timken . I'm going to press it apart and see if i can replace the bearing only. I dont see any need to waste all the other parts.
