H2's can fly!

Really cool. List of broken things at landing?

Hum2 04-27-2004 11:32 AM

Windshield cracked on the passenger side, and the transmission was whinning!

The whinning tranny stopped after shutting off the engine and looking underneath for anything unusual.

I need to get ahold of the guy and ask if anything else surfaced.

Also, 2 of the 3 H1's that made the jump (only 2-3 feet off the ground, ended up with cracked hoods.

Let me get this straight: after the first Hummer jumped n broke, other Hummer drivers decided, "Hey, let's see if I can also jump & top his damage..."

There were three H1's that did this jump. Then only one H2 tried it. The H2 was able to build up a lot more speed than the H1's. No other H2 owners were crazy enough to attempt it. Here is a link to a picture of the H1 over this same hill. http://elcova.com/groupee/forums?a=tpc&s=2826088551&f=1006067735&m=756108443

Same thing that went through my head.

I always wondered what happened to this one.

If I was not mistaken, a H1 broke his front spring after flying off a sand ledge last weekend at Pismo. 6000 Lbs Hummers are just not meant to fly..

Hum2 04-28-2004 11:13 AM

Motortrend stated that this was a legitimite jump, but I doubt it. With that soft of sand, you could not get the fron of the H2 that far off the ground.

Just my "engineering" observation/judgement.

Hummers may not be made to fly, but they sure can. The H2 in the original post did crack the windshield, but no other problems arose. The whining after the jump was from the front heat shield vibrating, but the sound was not duplicated and there have been no problems since. As far as the H1's are concerned the hoods cracked in the exact same place on both of them and they were replaced, under warranty by AMG. I did not break a spring with my jumps and the fun that I had doing it was worth the H2 that I was provided by the dealership while the work was done. These vehicles are made to do things that other vehicles can not and I plan to continue to be on three, two and 0 wheels to have some fun. If you do not push them it is like buying a Ferrari and driving it 55.

They air drop HUMVEE's out the back of C-130s. Why not jump an H1?

Black H1 04-29-2004 12:25 AM

Thank you

PARAGON 04-29-2004 01:07 AM

The problem with jumping, I guess, would be that you get nose heavy and plow with the front end.

In the parachute drops and the low deck pull outs of HUMVEEs they land pretty evenly on all four in their "crates."

I personally wouldn't be jumping either one because you will at least develop more rattles and I can't stand that.
