I am seriously so fed up with this cover... i get it all on.. nice and bolted silicone and all perfectly.. then take it for a spin and leaking!!!! ARGH!!!

so i have to go out of town for a few weeks. put it in the garage with a pan under it...

so i pull the cover AGAIN! then re do it all. this time i let the silicone dry over night over 24 hours with hand tightened bolts then tighten it up 24 hours later.. fill it.. test drive... seems fine. granted it was only a 5 minute drive. this morn i leave for another trip and look at it and it looks like it is leaking again... i just wanna take come c4 and blow that sucker off...

Phil, what do the # of bolt on the ring gear have to do with anything? Is this just to know for future info??

had me wondering

I have never used RTV on my diff covers...just regular grease. Is it "true"? Did you take a straitedge to it? Make sure all the leftover gasket is gone and dress any gouges that may be in the base metal of the diff.

yeah.. it was all clean and i made sure i had a nice even bead around it all... its so annoying!!! i used red rtv like phil said the first time.. then went to black.

Hey David... are you sure it is leaking from the gasket area? The reason I ask, is on another vehicle I had a cover that had a small crack next to one of the fins and it was very hard to see. Also double check the drain plug in the bottom of the housing. Just a thought..

funny you knew my name... haha..
yea its from the gasket.. no cracks or anything
i used tracer die too and use a black light.. light that thing right up.. its from the gasket.. it sucks. anyone in so cal wanna redo it with me again!!! haha
i think im going to ditch my previous sponsor cover that i did love yet is giving me a huge oil bill and a lot of wasted time..
maybe phil wants to sponsor a black powder coated cover??
